What the hell happened to JD Vance?

Anonymous
He wrote a book that captured people's imaginations and attention. Whether it was a good and accurate book or not is almost beside the point. People liked it - they read it.

It gave him a huge platform, that he's now leveraged into running for Senate - and in the course of that transition, he's changed a lot of his views/what he says about his views, and seems (frankly) to be out of his depth.

I don't know why this would be so shocking or difficult to understand. People use their platforms to do the thing they think is next in line and sometimes it works and sometimes it reveals the person's weaknesses and deficits. In this case, the Senate run seems to have revealed his weaknesses and deficits. He may still win! Ohio is pretty R. But - reach for the sky. See if you get there or fall back to earth. Right?

Well he won, folks. I wonder what is MIL, a UCSD professor, thinks of him.

Go home, JD, you’re drunk.

Grad and law school aren’t considered legacy.

He managed to win without showing his brown skin wife and children! I really didn’t know he was married until recently. Amazing!

His wife went to Yale undergrad.

There have been pics everywhere of his wife and kids for years, including on his campaign website.

Don’t recall seeing any pictures of her but I read she’s got a Yale law degree and an Oxford MPhil and works in BigLaw. Highly accomplished. You’d think she’d have been a huge part of his campaign. But perhaps her Big Law job is too demanding and she couldn’t reduce her hours there. I hear lawyers in such firms work up to 90 hours a week. And she’s a mom!

Tell that to JD Vance. At least the hypocrite public campaigner.

Still waiting on the citation that states Vance does not believe women should have careers. Nice try.

I’ve got whiplash

He was never a hero. He was promoted by elitists as a Trojan horse to appeal to the rubes. It has worked so far. He’s the Republican Senate nominee.

And here comes the revisionist history

I don't know anyone in real life who cared about that book. It was inorganically astroturfed by neocons and neolibs.

+1 The same people who spent all of 2017 and 2018 talking to Obama—>Trump voters in rural diners loved this book and have an outsized influence on our political discourse. They also spent two years writing takes about the diner guys while completely missing what was coming in 2018.

His tale wasn’t really that unique. He was born to a family who had assets (and a mom who was a nurse-it’s not like he was poor from Appalachia.) they just lost it due to drug use and bad choices

The high school he went to has horrific #’s.

Would love to know the background (ethnicity, immigration status) of the nanny that Jd Vance & his wife have used over the years to take care of their 3 young kids while they both pursue their careers...I am sure his wife is totally thrilled about toeing the BS line about women staying at home and raising the kids.....

Now there's a real winner of a platform.

Republicans, what is wrong with your party?

Makes you wonder how often he beats his own wife.

His wife is a hot shot lawyer who was a clerk for Supreme Court chief John Roberts. Vance is just pandering to a base of deplorables…

My Best Friend is a hot shot lawyer. Doesn’t mean her husband didn’t beat her so senseless that her 8 year old had to call 911 and she was hospitalized for several days. And so often that in the end, he lost all rights to even supervised visits with his kids and there is a restraining order prohibiting any form of contact with them, which has been renewed every year for the last 4-5. You have to work HARD to lose the right as. A parent to even talk to your kids on the phone.

You never know what happens behind closed doors.

Buttigieg's read of JD Vance was brutal but spot on when he went on Bill Maher 2 nights ago.

JD Vance is creepy and has some unhinged cultish views. Vance shared he is an admirer of Curtis Yarvis who has truly disturbing views about government and the future:
