Honestly, with Ilya's education you'd think he'd be better at deflecting than this. Was he affirmative actioned into Princeton or wherever? That's my assumption... "How I Had an Unhappy Childhood and Deserve the Ivy League." --by Ilya Shapiro. |
| Hack hack hack, and a stupid one at that. His “speech” is meaningless. Let’s all move on and forget him. |
What's the evidence to the contrary? |
Because the authoritarianism is the same in both groups. |
It’s best not to try to forget all the Republicans who seek to end the country. |
Not saying forget, I’m saying ignore. Turn around, shun. He’s a troll, without the attention he and his stupid ideas will wither and die. |

FYI re Barrett and Sotomayor "proving" that Shapiro is a racist:
(1) the Sotomayor pick received criticism even from the left (e.g., https://www.abajournal.com/news/article/laurence_tribes_leaked_memo_sotomayor_not_as_smart_as_she_seems_to_think_sh; https://lawandcrime.com/awkward/jonathan-turley-thought-sonia-sotomayor-wasnt-smart-enough-to-be-on-the-supreme-court/). (2) Shapiro suggested adding Barrett to Trump's short list even before there was a vacancy, so it's not surprising he later wrote in favor of her confirmation (https://www.newsweek.com/trump-should-add-these-people-his-supreme-court-list-opinion-1526246). |
| Bizarrely xenophobic vibe to many comments in this thread . . . . |
You’re so right, Shapiro is the VICTIM here! It’s so hard being a Koch prostitute anymore. People just jump on every racist Twitter comment you make and call you out for your appalling lack of principles. They even threaten to fire you using the same right to work laws for which you fought so hard! People just don’t recognize the true specialness that is the libertarian white male mind. |
| If he were just a professor, that would be one thing, but he's an Administrator. That's different. |
Agree. Seriously. Ilya was born in Russia as a Jew. Do most of you have any clue what that was like back then? Along with the rest of his family, they were required to carry their “internal passport” whenever they set foot outside their apartment. The police/military could, and often did, demand: “your papers please!” (yeah, Nazi-style). Only Ilya’s internal passport didn’t list him as “Russian;” only as a “Jew.” Here: I’m posting this link in light of the obvious ignorance of many of you when it comes to anti-Semitism: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_the_Soviet_Union |
How is this relevant to his comments about Scotus nominees? |
| Has Ilya explained why ACB wasn't a 'lesser woman' nominee (as there were clearly more "qualified" candidates available). I keep waiting for him to do that. |
DP here: a not insignificant portion of victims relish the opportunity to become oppressors later in life. It soothes their mental and emotional trauma. This is a pretty well documented psychological phenomenon. |
This was a requirement for all in the Soviet Union, and a way for suppressing the rural areas. It was almost impossible for anyone from the rural areas to obtain internal passport or travel papers, and as a result they were effectively prevented from moving outside of the rural poverty. I really doubt that Ilya given his age ever experienced this. |
