Closing USAID

On Fox News, they said the U.S. doesn't have anything like China's Belt and Road Initiative, which is hilarious.

Uh, yes, we did.

It was called USAID.

False choice. We - the richest nation in t the world - can do both.

And yet, thanks to the GOP we are cutting taxes for billionaires and eliminating SNAP and Medicaid.

Disgusting.

We are trillions of $$ in debt and very soon might not be the Reserve currency.

Read up on what is going on in the world around you.

Ok chicken little, what currency will be replacing the dollar??

I get it. Name calling feels good. Foreign policy is not rocket science but it’s not that simple. You think the federal government told you the whole story of what its agents were doing abroad? Do you believe everything you hear? Do you believe every story when it’s told to you?

Do you know how many countries do not allow the US government to operate within in their border? Let’s just say they are not trade partners.

It’s interesting how the citizens who mistrusted the federal government (and who exercised all their constitutional rights) are now the ones believing everything the government says, and all of its stories.

That is not logical to believe with such abandon. But a lot of people trust their governments, I guess? Or maybe it’s strategic?

I trust no one except my God. I lived in DC for a long time and literally made press stories. Before there was digital and self-publish through social media. I wrote a number of stories that other people published. I orchestrated public comments. Literally been on the front cover of the NYTimes when I had no business being on there. It’s been a ridiculous ride. I am a pawn, I at least know when I am a pawn.

But people gonna believe what they want to believe, I guess.

Saw this:
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/27/health/usaid-contract-terminations.html

Do we expect other countries to pick up the programs we're dropping for TB clinics and polio? I can't imagine other wealthy countries are not going to step in to take these over knowing that these diseases can impact everyone worldwide. It's terrible to imagine these protective measures could be completely abandoned.

USAID is under the executive branch. President hs right to review spending and control departments and agencies. That's just the way it is. Some Article 3 judge isn't going to get in the way of a Unitary Executive. Get used to that fact.

USAID was jointly managed and funded through the State Department. Anyone can look up their “Joint Strategic Plan.” Everything has to be approved by the State Department.

The Ambassadors is in charge of every US government (USG) actives in the country and reviews all of the contracts between the US Government and other governments for projects or whatever. The Secretary of State is aware of every project and their outcomes through the Ambassador. ( Basically rogue operation is very much not the case.Things were slow AF ). All agreements and contracts on the ground go through our Millionaire or Billionaire ambassadors, who get appointed by each POTUS.

Sometimes the lesser millionaires or lesser people get ambassador-ships because the locations are not desirable (hot and poor). That is diplomacy. I am leaving out trade and government police cooperation.

So USAID was devaluing foreign currency and pilfering natural resources to pay for AIDS medication?

Unitary Executive basically means that congress and the courts are useless. Why would you support this idea? Checks and balances prevent abuses of power regardless of the political leanings of a president. Do you really want someone like AOC to become president with Unitary Executive branch power? If you don't then the current president should not have this power either. This crackpot legal theory is incredibly dangerous and no one should have absolute control over the government.

Borrow money from foreign countries, then give that money to foreign countries

Go away, vile foreign propaganda spewer.

I will take USAID any day of the week over your Russian "little green men" in Burkina Faso and its influence operations everywhere else.

I will take USAID any day of the week over your CCP-run Chinese operations around the globe.

USAID was very specifically intended to be independent of intelligence, DoD etc, which made it very different than what you claim it to be, and which Russia and China WERE in fact to be. And, this is also precisely why the talk of putting it under State Department is so stupid.
