He wants Disney to drop their lawsuit against FL. I guess it's not a good look for him to go up against Mickey.

Disney does not have a lawsuit against Florida.

Desantis is the one while described it that way. The suit is against Desantis’s new crony board for nullifying the contracts signed by the previous board. Desantis bragged about his petty fight with Disney in his campaign but he must have figured out how stupid that is as a political strategy.

'Nullifying the contracts' means they canceled the previous board's handing over to Disney total control of everything the board does *'until the death of the last defendant of King Charles'. This is what people are supporting because they hate DeSantis.

If Disney's actions are allowed to stand, then your HOA could hand over all its powers to a private company forever.

Another analogy would be Democrats winning elections in 2024, winning the House, but on New Year's Eve, Republicans in the House pass a resolution giving all their powers to ExxonMobil.

^^Republicans complaining about corporations with no sense of irony. Neither of these analogies is even remotely correct.

In the first, the HOA would be handing its powers back to the homeowners forever, not an unrelated third party. Because Disney:Reedy Creek Improvement District::Homeowners:HOA

In the second, the articles of incorporation are analogous to the constitution. Reedy Creek followed its articles of Incorporation. The House Republicans, in your flawed analogy, did not follow the process for amending the constitution.

Why am I unsurprised that conservatives can't construct a proper analogy.

DP. My understanding is that Disney created Reedy Creek and everything there out of whole cloth. Prior to Disney there was nothing there but undeveloped swamp land and a completely uninvolved county government. And all throughout the history of Reedy Creek, Disney was Reedy Creek, Disney built literally everything there. What's happened is that Florida and this new group of hand-picked DeSantis cronies stepped in and ripped it away from them. Florida and this new group wresting control away from Disney is a new, unrelated party and what they are doing is basically theft.

Disney didn’t want the cheap motels and strip clubs and shady vendors that are common in Florida tourist areas right outside their gates. That’s what Reedy Creek is for, to Disneyfy a buffer zone from the real Florida.

The independent district was for the purpose of building a city, not a theme park. They've been getting away with it for 50 years.

"Getting away with" what exactly? They did exactly that - they built out a city - they built and paid for the roads, the bridges, the water and sewer, the trash collection, the police and fire department and all other municipal services, and everything else that goes along with it. Now some random people who contributed nothing and did nothing to build any of it want to come along and take it all away.

There wasn’t anything there before. There were no strip clubs.

What is jawboning?

Threatening changes in laws or regulations to retaliate for something the government can’t directly stop, such as political speech.

Seems obvious this is what DeSantis did.
And then worse.

They should have tried that argument in court rather than the 1st amendment retaliation. Disney did not build everything there, but a lot of it, and the rest would be worthless without Disney. What was taken away from Disney is the ability to ignore zoning and getting permits, along with the ability to charge other businesses for their expenses.

and this was done purely, openly and expressly as a retaliation for Disney's position on the dont say gay bill. like, you knwo, when Jack Mah said something about the Chinese government and Xi acted against the Alibaba Group. Republicans should be aghast but apparently they are ok now with dictators, real and wannabe, retaliating against companies that do not toe their political line

Vote republican for state control of the means of production.

The whole debacle demonstrates that desantis has no judgment whatsoever.

Seconded by his inability to decide whether or not to raise his hand at the gop debate.

Not good qualities for POTUS.

Except they technically didn't retaliate against Disney. Reedy Creek is independent of Disney. Disney did not have legal control over the district.

Have you ever been there, to claim they built out a city? It is a tourist area built around Disney World and other attractions, not the original planned city of tomorrow, which they used the name for EPCOT.
There are other businesses there, whose tax money was used for Disney expenses. They are now under criminal investigation for some of these schemes.

Link to the “criminal investigation”?

Have you heard of Celebration, FL?

You didn’t understand my comment at all. In Florida, once any place is developed, cheap motels and strip clubs and pawn shops will come as soon as near as you let them. Disney understandably wanted authority over what was permitted in their vicinity.

They spend money in the parks when they use the Annual Passes.

By that logic, everyone should be given an annual pass.

Mid you’re not a stockholder why is this your concern? If you are a stockholder vote your shares at the next annual meeting. Otherwise butt the heck out of corporate business.
