Syracuse is a great option for high achieving students who want to stand out

Syracuse is great!

My son just finished his second year there. He is on a full tuition scholarship. Campus facilities and resources are first rate and as a high achieving student he stands out and has gotten many wonderful opportunities. He had a great internship last summer, a great internship this summer and built a strong narrative that helped him land a great investment banking internship next summer with a top bank.

We can all agree it’s worth the price your son is paying.

Full scholarship is amazing!

Full scholarship to anywhere is a great option.

Would you have paid full price, OP?

What's the rack rate at Syracuse?

Would you have paid 95,000 per year for him to attend, OP?

I know someone who did the same at WVU. Great internships, and going on to do something else great. And they got lots of merit aid.

But, would you still want your high achieving kid to go to WVU? Probably not if they had other options.

OP it sounds like he is having a great academic experience. What scholarship was he given? What was the process for applying?

Great for you but the cost is absurd for undergrad.

Also, they failed to meet their enrollment this year, leaving them with a budget deficit.

Doesn't mean syracuse will fold or significantly change, but it does indicate a problem.

No one would dispute that Syracuse, or nearly any college, for free is well-done and "worth it."

The real question is whether it's decently competitive for people paying, whether that is full rack rate or some discounted version.

By most accounts, the market is saying "no," which is why they are struggling financially and missing enrollment numbers.

It depends what those other options are. WVU can be a terrific experience

My Daughter (Virginia in-state) got into Syracuse with a 30K a year merit scholarship, making it 60K a year.

Syracuse is a great school, but William and Mary was 60K cheaper for her over four years, and Virginia Tech was 120K CHEAPER over four years, and that is with Syracuse being 1/3 off the sticker price. The value is just not there.

This year, $97k COA. Has been going up $5k a year.
