Do you love your dentist?

Apologies, I feel like this is a repeating topic, but a search didn't turn up anything recent.

I need to have a cavity filled. I've never had one before, and I'm nervous. I've always gone to just any dentist for my regular cleanings, but now that I actually need something more than a hygienist, I want to be a little pickier.

Two issues:
1. Nervous about it, general fear of needles. The absolute worst thing is having to hold still while someone is doing something to me that hurts. I can deal with my own pain, like cramps or a headache or whatever, as well as any woman (eg, better than a man). But submitting to someone causing me pain is psychologically torturous.
2. I flat refuse to patronize a practice or provider that is affiliated in any way with private equity. PE is a scourge on healthcare and boycotting is all I have.

So do you love your independent dentist? Got someone patient and equipped to deal with neurosis? I'm in DC and if I have to leave the District, Silver Spring/ Takoma is preferable.

I'm sorry, what?

Agreed that PE is a scourge on healthcare.

Sorry I don't know any in DC but I would check the google and yelp reviews in the area and probably post on the local reddit for recommendations.

Where are you located? Is insurance an issue?

If you cannot handle the painkiller injection, you should look for a dentist that does oral sedation.

My dentist prescribes me Xanax before a procedure She gives me two, one for the night before and one the day of. But I have to Uber there and get a ride home, I also can't really work that day because I'm weird and loopy. But it works.

In general I hate dentists. I have always been afraid of them and hate the entire process. But, I found one I love. Perkins and George on New Hampshire (near Randolph) in Silver Spring. There is always a long wait though. Apparently, I am not the only one that loves them.

A few years ago, we switched to Dr Loukatis. He is a solo practitioner with a great staff and hygienist. Office is in the Palisades and they have a small lot out back. We landed with him
after several bad experiences being told by former dentist that we needed expensive and invasive procedures that we absolutely didn’t need.

We love Dr. Monica Chandran in Olney. She doesn’t take insurance but they will file your claims for you.

Dr. Sivakumar in Rockville offers sedation if needed, and he’s an excellent dentist.
