hypertension and thin

Anyone else get diagnosed with hypertension when they have zero other risk factors. Low BMI, eat super healthy, exercise. I did have tremendous stress about 15 years ago due to other medical issues.

It’s genetic. Check if anyone in your extended family has it.

OP, depending on what those other medical conditions are, that could also increase risk for HBP. Is it high enough to warrant treatment/medication?

There are plenty of things that cause hypertension without overweight/obesity.

OP, how is your cholesterol? What is your LDL, specifically? Do you have a history of heart disease in your family?

It can be stress, as well, even if it's a elevated state of awareness that you never resolved after the events 15 years ago.

I work on recognizing when I am in one of those high alert states (can happen now after the most mundane things) breathing exercises and I regularly drink an unsweetened smoothie with kale, spinach, ginger and some fruit. This on top of cardio and weights.

LDL is very good. No concerns there. but yes, I am in hyper alert mode on most days.

My husband’s side are all tall and slim and all have high blood pressure. Without medication some of them have had strokes.

lifestyle is super important but can only get you so far. I'm similar with healthy weight for my entire life, good diet, lots of exercise, and have prediabetes. It is what it is. Once you are over 45, your body's warranty expires. Then you are just managing until something gets you.

Yes, me. I haven't pulled the trigger on medication yet, because I think some of it is white coat effect.

Me again. What's your number? I've been to the doctor and had 140, or sometimes 160. But at home, it's usually around 120 or 130.

Yup. And you’ll live a nice long one. Imagine if those drugs didn’t exist.

My dad has been thin and fit his whole life and has had to take blood pressure medication since his forties. Same with my uncles.

Genetics

Dad has high blood pressure, cholesterol issues, no thyroid, type 2 Diabetes, and takes meds for all. He was always very thin and ate healthy and he was diagnosed with these issues in his 20s/30s.

My blood pressure is fine. My cholesterol is excellent. My thyroid levels were fine last time I checked 5 years, but I’m close to being diabetic, I’m like 110lbs and eat Keto.
