Montenegro in August

I would like to do a girls trip to Montenegro in August. Any recommendations or travel tips from those who have been before?

Have you looked at the temperature? It's the hottest time of the year. We were considering a Croatia/Montenegro trip but decided against it as southern Europe in August is roasting.

It will be hot as Hades

The coast will be painfully hot and crowded, because August is when a lot of people get their long vacations. Inland is cooler and so overlooked! Lake Skadar (which is an amazing wine region) and Durmitor National Park are pleasant in August, with great places to swim and beautiful scenery. Google pictures of Black Lake and Tara River.

It can be sketchy for women traveling without men.

Why not go to Croatia instead? Safer, more civilized.

Montenegro is certainly more civilized than the DMV. Croatia is certainly more crowded and expensive than Montenegro.

But OP, August is not the best month. Can you do September, even very early September? It will be so much better than August, which does get unbearably hot (anywhere in southern Europe).

Having traveled to both, I can assure you that Montenegro is not more civilized than the DC metro area. It must be nice being blissfully unaware of your surroundings and ignorant to local and regional news. Anyway, I follow tons of travel bloggers and FB groups, and it’s very common to hear from female travelers who had scary experiences in Montenegro.

Fun fact: during covid, tons of Russians (including many involved in criminal activity) bought up real estate in Montenegro (prompting a housing crisis for locals).

Montenegro is the only place we’ve felt uncomfortable getting in a car with a driver or navigating side streets alone.

If you opt to go, make sure you hire a trusted driver who keeps an eye on you.

Aug in DC is when everyone goes abroad. The absolute dumbest time. I simply don't get it. Rearrange your calendar at least one yr to travel at least in July if not June? Dummies!

Hope you like to sweat all day and night.

I grew up in that region and it’s hot but probably the best time of the year to go. You’ll have a great time. Most of the places have AC now so it’s no different than here when it’s hot.

Like an adults girls trip? Can you wait until September? I get that with kids and school schedules it is harder but I wouldn't go in August if other options were available.

Did you miss the days in kindergarten when you were supposed to have been taught that your experiences are not universal? I am not the PP, but I have also been to Montenegro multiple times (and live in the DMV), and my opinion is that Montenegro is quite safe. People have had "scary experiences" in the DMV area too.

I saw women hassled every where I went. And I follow tons of travel groups online and have read some very troubling things.

Plus ICYMI, there’s a huge trafficking and organized crime in the country. Locals from Croatia cautioned us against visiting and shared really scary stories.
