Montenegro is certainly more civilized than the DMV. Croatia is certainly more crowded and expensive than Montenegro.

But OP, August is not the best month. Can you do September, even very early September? It will be so much better than August, which does get unbearably hot (anywhere in southern Europe).[/quote]

Having traveled to both, I can assure you that Montenegro is not more civilized than the DC metro area. It must be nice being blissfully unaware of your surroundings and ignorant to local and regional news. Anyway, I follow tons of travel bloggers and FB groups, and it’s very common to hear from female travelers who had scary experiences in Montenegro.

Fun fact: during covid, tons of Russians (including many involved in criminal activity) bought up real estate in Montenegro (prompting a housing crisis for locals).

Montenegro is the only place we’ve felt uncomfortable getting in a car with a driver or navigating side streets alone.

If you opt to go, make sure you hire a trusted driver who keeps an eye on you. [/quote]

Did you miss the days in kindergarten when you were supposed to have been taught that your experiences are not universal?  I am not the PP, but I have also been to Montenegro multiple times (and live in the DMV), and my opinion is that Montenegro is quite safe. People have had "scary experiences" in the DMV area too.[/quote]
