Why is HVAC at Taylor down for a week in the cafeteria? I feel it’s been enough time they could have procured a new unit?! There are constant HVAC issues ; we had like a week of closures last week, and there was even weird odors and smoke several times this year.
Are they deferring maintenance because they plan to rebuild on renovate the school in the next decade or so and limping along because may replacement would be wasted when tear down happens? But without a swing space what is the plan for renovating decrepit old schools like Taylor. Closing Nottingham obv was a bad idea, but unless a new elementary is being built what is the plan?? |
| If it makes you feel better I work in one of the newest schools in the county and our HVAC is not working on the 4th floor. |
Are you still using that floor? That seems untenable, especially since he rises. How long has it been broken! Does not make me feel better because it just shows they’re incompetent and I’m willing to invest in the proper maintenance and replacements. |

It’s been broken for much longer than a week but the MPR being freezing cold over the winter was more tolerable than being blazing hot in June. Walk down the path to the trailer and peek into the boiler room windows. It’s not just a matter of buying “a new unit” - that system is ancient and only a few people within APS can even service it. Parts are increasingly hard to come by. I think I read that we might be scheduled for a partial renovation in 2039.
However you or anyone may feel about it, the fact is that our 22207 tax revenue is being used to support lower income schools and families. |
You must mean 2029 because absolutely no one is thinking about 2039 at this point. |
They mean 2029, but 2039 is more likely. Taylor is in the feasibility study phase, which means they haven’t even scoped out the work or placed it in the CIP. This will require millions, so will be included on a ballot in Nov 2028 at the soonest — but the way the county finances are going, it could well be deferred or even voted down. Taylor students should bring fans. |
| Do kids eat lunch in that furnace? It’s 94! |
| Yes, but my kids don’t complain about that. They are much more bothered by all the longer events that take place in there. Band concerts, chorus concerts, etc that the whole school attends. They are packed in like sardines for these and it gets really hot. I’ve attended a few of these performances at night and it has been pretty rough. Fifth grade promotion tomorrow should be a sweaty one. |
Agreed it’s awful for everything. Why haven’t they got some portable AC ducted in. Ridiculous |
| Taylor isn't the only school with AC issues. Gunston also has problems. |
| I watched a school get its HVAC replaced. It set up the day after school ended and clean up was the day before school started. I know nothing about it but there was a lot of stuff (a parking lot full) and it took all 10 weeks of summer. I assume/hope that they'll start it next Friday. |
Taylor is supposed to host summer camps this year, so probably not. |
Middle schoolers can leave the cafeteria more readily if they are hot. |
| At least the cold pizza will stay warm and fresh! |
| Promotion was scorching hot today. Glad to be finished with that decrepit facility. |
