COSA Request

Anonymous
Hi.

Currently we are in the zoning for the Walter Johnson HS Area. Although, we are considering in around 2/3 years time to move to another school zoning area in MCPS. My son will be in his junior year during this time which is why we are considering to apply for a COSA. If I understand correctly, juniors and seniors are granted COSAs until their graduation, I am wondering if this case will be different as Walter Johnson is an overpopulated school? We will be applying when the new Woodward school gets opened up so it may be different, although I'm not sure.

Can someone let me know if his COSA would be approved or what else abot COSAs I need to know?
Another factor is that my son has moved 5 different countries during his life (due to unrelated reasons regarding him) continuing this constant change of education could be detrimental to him when applying to colleges which is why we are considering getting a therapist or doctors letter of recommendation for the COSA, although I'm not sure if this will play a large role in the COSA, as I understand COSAs are hard to get approved of.

No one here can tell you how hard it will be to get a COSA in 2-3 years. If you’re really worried about a transition during high school, your best bet is to wait to move until after graduation.

If the school is overenrolled, unlikely to get COSA approved, even with a strong case of hardship. No seats, no luck.

In 2027 Walter Johnson will be at 77% enrollment. So if you are going to be asking to stay at Walter Johnson most likely it will be approved.
