Potomac Boys Director Quit?

Anonymous
My son recently joined Potomac and has really enjoyed the training sessions so far. One of the main reasons we decided to join was the opportunity to work with the Boys Director, KL, he has trained with KL 5 times now and we have been very happy and impressed. We would not have joined if we knew he wasn’t returning. Another parent mentioned that he may have left the club. Does anyone know what’s going on?

I don’t know any further details or back story but you are correct.

Potomac's technical director announced yesterday that he is leaving his position due to lack of support from the organization. He is right. The organization has grown heavily as a result of becoming ECNL several years ago. He was doing the job of 3 people. Good for him for protecting his health.
I have heard of at least 5 players leaving as a result. The big question is if he will immediately take a position elsewhere and take more players.

Also heard that the Technical director of Juventus is leaving as well to start his own club.

He really is the reason we stayed in this club, I’m shocked Potomac would not do everything to keep him. Like someone else said he was doing the job of 3 people and improving the club massively, we feel let down by the club

We are leaving, waiting to hear about where he ends up

Don't join a club because of a coach! We left a club to follow the coach when he left and in a few months he relocated out of state (got married). We had to go to tryouts again and find a diff club because the new club was small and the replacing coach had no experience. Just choose an environment that works for your child's temperament, make sure he/she plays at the appropriate level and gets plenty of playing time so they can develop.

This is great advice!

We joined Potomac Soccer for the environment, but we believe that the director was a huge reason for the good environment and positivity around the club, it’s just disheartening because we also know how much he had planned for the future, he doesn’t coach my son, but we are still considering leaving now

Of course, do whatever you think is best for your child, this is very common and people change jobs and players change clubs, it's the nature of youth soccer. These clubs will still be here so it's best to focus on your own child's experience because time flies by!!

Please do not listen to this if you have a high-level player. The coach is the primary thing you want to focus on if you are trying to actually use the club model to develop. The average coach in the area did not play at a high level and does not know what to do except have a nice tidy environment.

our DS just committed to play D1 - he had so many coaches throughout!! I think the coach can make or break a player's experience but we always chose the club based on club size and reputation because of exposure to showcases and best events for recruiting.
