Arlington: Has this $3m wreck been discussed?

What am I looking at and at what point does custom built not matter anymore? this house is from 1999 and already looks like a teardown.

That is horrible… weird design mix

You have no idea what “tear down” means. You just don’t like the design.

I can definitely see that it was custom-designed for a particular family--there are lots of choices that I wouldn't have made. That said, the windows are amazing (even if I wouldn't want to pay to heat those vaulted ceilings)! I hope that the eventual buyer likes the layout as much as the original owners did.

After almost 30 years wouldn’t the windows be close to having to be replaced? That’s probably $300k.

It’s a bit out of step with what people are looking for that that price point.

Yeah, not appealing. The exterior looks like a firehouse.

It's very 90s fabulous.

I wouldn't have gone with that level of leaning into what an architectural custom-built gem it is in the description. It's a dated house. No one cares that back in 1999 the people tried really hard.

No useable yard and not great outdoor space. Very choppy first floor and hard to even tell what's going on. The kitchen looks really cramped.

4 bedrooms and 3M do not really match up.

I agree the exterior is really hideous. Franken-mansion.

This is a house for a very specific buyer. I hope they can find that buyer, but honestly that price point seems way too high. 2.5, maybe? It's too bad the owners couldn't hold ont it for another ~20 years - given cycles, there might be more appeal in this as a vintage house rather than "an architectural custom-built gem".

I jsut can't get over how ugly facades of houses came to be a thing.

Fiberglass windows can last 50 years.

I like how they bold "custom". We can tell. The outside has several different styles.

Funny, I had the same thought.

Built in 1999/2000, but the aesthetic was already on its way out. Height of "in" ca 1995.

The unfinished basement is the best part

I remember architecture designs in the 1990s very well. This would have been an unusual house back then, this is not what most people were designing for high end custom build. I do recognize a bit of this and that in the styles used, but together in this house? This design is extremely unique. The owners spent a great deal of money on an odd floor plan and unusual styles. I do appreciate the high quality brick front door focal area as that is truly lovely and interesting and well done, but everything else is either dated, didn't age well, or idiosyncratic. I've a feeling the owners constantly overrode any architects they worked with.

I looked at the photos before the floor plan and when I finally found where the kitchen was, it made me realize how massive the house is. And good golly, what an odd, even terrible, floor plan. I wonder what this will ultimately sell for.

I didn't realize there were floor plans and now see them.

Bedrooms on the bottom floor and the kitchen placement and size are inexplicable.

The 90s elements to me are: brick on the exterior, lots of vaulted ceilings, those horrid transom windows everywhere.
