Dead Fridge... and broke

Seeing if anyone can help me find a fridge with some caveats...

Looking for a store that does 'Rent to own' or something simliar where I can pay in payments. I went to home depot and best buy but they want me to apply for their credit card for financing. I don't want to do that. I'm just looking for credit for a fridge. Long story short,

I bought my current fridge a few years ago and unfortnately I'm out of the warranty window and the cost to repair is about 1k. Any advice on what store does fianancing without applying for a credit card would be awesome. I'm in the springfield/lorton area.

If you aren’t picky about color/features/size you might be able to get one from a buy nothing group. You can post explaining what you need and sometimes people renovating kitchens are getting rid of perfectly good refrigerators.

I don’t think anyone would finance without a credit check. Have you looked on local listservs for someone selling an old one for cheap?

I’d just scour Facebook marketplace and buy nothings for now. We’ve given away a few fridges in perfect working order. Any buy to own is a trap where you’ll spend a multiple of what the fridge costs.

This. Why would you be looking for a new fridge? You can rent a truck from Home Depot for $25

Or I would fix it myself. This is even easier for you since you know what's broken on it. We watch youtube videos and fix just about everything ourselves. Parts on amazon and ebay are like $5. Currently fixing our dryer belt.

Agree with a buy nothing group or similar.

Also I know Lowes has a financing option that is not tied to a credit card. I don't typically recommend them if your credit isn't great, but it's an option. Also, a lot of places online now also use after pay and Klarna.

The rent to own type places are often quite scammy so I'd be careful. I'd check places like goodwill or buy nothing groups.

I wish I could. It's the compressor that is broken and I'm not the most 'handy' person when it comes to fixing things.

I mean this kindly, but if you're broke you don't have too many options (we are the same way). Compressor isn't that easy of a fix. Even still, go get a cheap one on marketplace.

Being handy just requires watching youtube.

Get a second opinion on the issue. Maybe something as simple as vacuuming the coils.

Just be sure that when you move the refrigerator, you do it correctly. You don’t want water or oil getting into the compressor. Here’s a short video on what to do: https://youtube.com/shorts/DnFZ3vvRu5w?si=L6Nfb06TvIJIilQE

When did you last vacuum the coils on the back of the frig? A bad compressor will leave your fridge struggling to cool and often clicks or hums loudly. However, heavily dust-clogged vacuum/condenser coils can cause the exact same symptoms. Before paying for a costly compressor replacement, you should always thoroughly clean the coils to ensure the compressor isn’t just overheating from restricted

has college move out already happened? because maybe you could get a dorm sized fridge or two on the cheap/free just until you can get a full size fridge.

Go to Community Forklift, they have a ton of used appliances for little money.
