I am clueless enough on my own clothes, let alone men's stuff. My DH is pretty easy to dress, he is 6' 2", trim, 34 waist, and works at a law firm. Lots of things will look good on him, but I have no idea the "connotations" of these clothes for a 35 yo (and he doesn't either, of course).
So, is Perry Ellis a tacky brand? Nautica? Does it even matter much with guys? We got some Brooks Brothers suits from an outlet and some Banana stuff for him, but for more casual wear what is considered a good brand and what is considered not so great? Thanks! |

I went to Target to get 4 bags of boxers for DH because his ass smells bad at night

I don't think Perry Ellis and Nautica are tacky per se, but I notice these brands a lot at outlets and places like TJ Maxx, so I would look over the clothes very carefully for quality before buying. For work, Brooks Brothers is good. For a cheaper option you can try Joseph A. Bank and for a splurge go to Nordstrom or Thomas Pink.
For weekends I would get him at least one pair of nice jeans in a dark wash with a trim (not tight) fit. Pair them with a solid t-shirt and trendy sneakers for Saturday errands, and switch to a blazer and loafers for dinner out. A good cashmere sweater never hurt anyone either. Make sure he has a nice coat and a respectable hat and scarf. This is often overlooked but in winter it's very important. Banana Republic and J.Crew are good for guys who want to look decent but not stand out. I would stick to the full-price store for most things (watch for sales). The outlet stuff is made more cheaply and that will start to show after a few washings. |
| Shop at Nordstrom. The sales people are so helpful. I like BR too. Once I know what fits DH I can just pick up stuff there every once in a while. Gap is good for casual stuff- jeans, tees, etc... |
| No, my husband is a grown man, and I have a paid job, so he does all his own shopping. Tee hee! |
| Banana Republic, we usually shop together for his stuff or I order online for birthday, Christmas, etc. |
This. My husband doesn't shop for me, either. |

Charles Tyrwhitt is great. (Ctshirts.com). Their suits are cut for a slimmer build and so they look so nice on trim men. The shirts are also really nice and affordable. Brooks Brothers annoys me because they are expensive, but maybe not worth the expense. The no iron shirts seem to fall apart in no time (but maybe that's relative, as my husband does have those shirts in heavy rotation.)

my DH is definitely on the preppy side and not so trendy, so take this with a grain of salt if you are looking for trendy.
Love the Charles Tyrwhitt shirts. I get DH about one a year, as they are (IMHO) a little on the pricier side if not on sale. His basic blue and white dress shirts are Lands' End no-iron slim fit. Jeans for DH are Gap or J.Crew. Note that jeans are usually sized larger than suits, so we buy them 1 to 2 inches smaller in the waist than his suit pants. Casual shirts are usually J.Crew or Ralph Lauren. For work, make sure his clothes are well tailored. A suit that fits well makes a big difference. |
| My husband has no interest when it comes to clothes. I buy all his clothes at Brooks Brothers Outlet Store. The style is classic and go together like garanimals. And most shirts are no-iron. |
| I would never have my DH shop with me for my own clothes, but he's so grateful when I help him shop that I do it for the brownie points. Like your DH, mine is trim and a partner in a firm; he wears suits to work most days, but not every day. We always have good luck finding things for him at Nordstrom or Saks; GAP and JCrew are fine for casual clothes. While I hate buying for the label myself, I do find that almost anything from Ralph Lauren works well for DH -- good quality and a preppy look that suits him. |
| 2204, ha ha, Garanimals. My husband looks like the Unabomber with all his F-ing hoodies so I will shop at the BB Outlet for his clueless ass. |
| I shudder to think what DH would look like if he went clothes shopping on his own. I don't impose my taste on him when we go shopping, but he can't even pick out the clothing he likes on solo shopping trips. |
It's not that my DH is physically incapable of shopping. He just doesn't like to do it, so I take care of it for him. He does lots of things for me too. We both work. We don't keep score. |
| Funny, I'm a female partner in a law firm, and somehow I can shop for my own clothes. I do think my DH should shop for and buy his own clothes; after all, I buy all of the childrens' clothes. |
