Netflix shows that are good for kids

As we enter summer and allow more screen time, I'm looking for more things on Netflix that aren't completely crap for kids. We tried Camp Kikiwaka and it's full of racist tropes! Indian kid is a nerd with an accent, Chinese kid plays violin and only packed books for camp, the leader is a cool white bro. Ugh! Are there shows that people like for elementary age? Like age 8-11? My son still likes Inbestigators and I think it is ok, certainly better than other shows (nothing too rude, but I'm not thrilled they turned the one black kid into a goofy joke when the show started as fine).

I should mention we are POC so maybe we are particularly sensitive to these things. I know a lot of people allow DisneyPlus with no problem.

My upper elementary DD likes young Sheldon but I always watch with her (and there is infrequently bad language).

This is an old one but I think it’s still on Netflix — Merlin. My kid really liked that one at that age. Have you already watched series of unfortunate events? It really is fun/clever.

Young Sheldon is a brilliant show. It was funny, thought provoking, and never shyed away from pointing out hypocrisy. My kids loved it. There were lots of questions in the later seasons but the themes it explored about families, school, religion, in-law relationships, friendships, marriage, class, sibling relationship, kids with differences, etc were so on point. We really enjoyed watching as a family.

I agree with some of your post but an Indian kid with an accent? There's nothing wrong with that.....

How old is your child? That is a huge range. At 8 my kids were still watching PBS kids (Odd Squad, Dino Dan, etc.) At 11 they were watching shows like Young Sheldon, Fresh off the Boat, etc. I realize these shows are not on Netflix...

For Netflix, and a boy in upper elementary, I would try Avatar the Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra. For the younger end, Lego Ninjago is surprisingly well done.

Yeah because Chinese kids never play violin and are never the intelligent type to have a lot of books.

How about they want to see themselves on these kid shows?
