National 1 League? - what is it?

Anonymous
What is the National 1 League? I am seeing a new announcement about inaugural teams that are a part National 1. Sounds like it has to do with NCSL, but I don't understand what it is or how it is different? Can someone dumb it down for me. I tried using AI to understand, but need more help.

I think its supposed to be a small league above ncsl but below ecrl, or maybe first division of ncsl. The clubs they are advertising as participating have their first teams in Ecrl, and that's not changing.
So it seems those clubs' second teams will
be in "national league". ????

I posted the same question last week. I was confused
But now it turns out our club in the EDP league is disbanding and now were all scrambling trying to find new clubs after tryouts have happened.

National 1 is the future. A national league to bring all the teams from across the country into one league, focused on players, one championship, to find out which are the best teams in the land. Once and for all settled on the pitch. The way it should be. Nothing like this has been done before. It’s game changing. Youth soccer will never be the same.

I think they are letting the clubs without compeitive girls teams in RL move those girls teams down to "national league"? It would completely change how VPSL does the RL scheduling though and make a lot more work for them so maybe not.

I think its where the bigger ecnl clubs are putting their third teams.

It’s also where the smaller clubs, who don’t have a badge, are putting their top teams. In theory it makes sense, but it would be much better if there was actually promotion/relegation to ECRL.

Hard to believe there's still money to be made by creating yet another new league

It's a rebranded merger between NPL and NL. A place for smaller clubs to place their top teams and for larger clubs to place 2nd or 3rd teams. Basically the top of EDP or NCSL but with an opportunity to qualify for national competitions.

It's "team based" meaning clubs don't need to put all of their age levels in the league. Presumably, the clubs that are "announcing" are clubs that have registered to place some of their teams in the league.

At what age group does this start?

What "national competitions" are they qualifiying for?

Do they have to apply and be accepted implying some sort of vetting or do they just sign up like NCSL?

My guess is they are treading very carefully with their marketing for the national league. It looks like it is basically just NCSL Division 1 and nothing special.

ECNL-RL is still somewhat prestigious--you have to apply as a club and be accepted and have teams in every level--and they don't want to do anything to damage or water down that "brand". They aren't going to promote single teams from National 1 up to ECRL.

I agree. Clubs would rather advertise playing in the "new National league" then "NCSL". NCSL is seen as the lowest level and having a rec division doesn't help that. People are chading prestige and would rather say their kid plays in the "national league" than "NCSL" even if they are basically the same thing.

My understanding is it is basically absorbing/ replacing NCSL but allowing a promotion and relegation pathway with ECNL RL, including possible playoffs that includes RL and N 1 League. I hope it is true what someone said regarding lower RL teams move into this league. I assume this also becomes more of a team platform vs club, which is also a positive.
