Hi All ,
DD is at Rachel Carson (English AA) , i was shocked to see her scores they are below 500 , she has never gone below 500 ,last year her score is 590 . Also she told many of her classmates were in the range , so I was wondering if it was really hard this time ? |
| My 7th grader scored within 10 points of what they scored last year... |
| Nope. My 7th grader got 20 points higher than last year and said all of her friends were well above 500. This is a mix of regular and Honors kids, none are in AAP. |
| There are different tests out there. |
| Different Tests ? Can you give me more information please , I'm un aware of it . |
It’s adaptive. Everyone can end up with different reading passages. |
| My 7th grader scored lower than she ever has (usually close to perfect- this year 530). But she also has a terrible teacher. Not sure if it was harder or not, but I don’t think it really matters… |
| Some of the scores are the difference of one or two questions right or wrong. SOLs are not that deep. |
We say that, but next year, the SOLs will be 10% of the student's final grade. It's going to get a whole lot deeper soon ... |
The reading SOL is also poorly written with ambiguous answer choices. I've heard that in the past, but my 4th grader took home a practice test this year and I found it to be quite true in reviewing with him. There were several where I could make an argument for 2 different answers and I'm a grown adult with a college degree! |
True.. some of them i felt 3 options are correct |
| My 4th grader is a good reader and smart - The SOL score however is lower than last year's and just barely pass-advanced. I don't know why they cannot release the questions/answers for the students to review and learn from. |
Troll? That would literally be teaching to the test... |
Why would your first impression be "Troll?" - and are you saying there is no value in learning from mistakes? |
I'm in the same place.I have the same question for a very long time . why arent they giving away the test the kids did ?, Its is even much easier since its online . For all these years i literally couldn't understand my child's strengths and weakness . ofcourse at class level test and SOL Pass all the time she gets 100 % , so I can never understand whats something is she struggling when it comes to SOL . |
