Because the other thread is almost 70 pages long... Here it is:
https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DTKPMG64A793/$file/Proposed%20Amend%202026-2027%20SY%20Calendar%20260430.pdf Summary -- no starting early, but ending early. Adding in November 9th, day before Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Setting 4/22 (Passover) and 5/17 (Eid) as potential makeups along with June 11 - June 17. Thank GOD we're not starting early. |

"While the revised recommendation before the Board of Education for consideration today returns
to the approved start date with a transition day of August 24, 2026, it may be beneficial and necessary to reconsider an earlier start in August with further advance planning as we look ahead to the 2027–2028 school year." Won't be as unpopular as the early start for 2026, but I don't think this will be popular unless it means last day of school is very early June. (Frederick County MD's calendar is 8/19-6/4 next year). |
| So we're back to using religious holidays as potential make-up days. Seems like that'll get him back in hot water if MCPS's hand is forced again as it was this year. |
| so is this final final? I thought it was being discussed on Thursday. if so, very relieved they did not change the start date this year. |
It'll be approved on Thursday. There's five minutes on the agenda so they're not going to debate this much before passage. |
| So much better! |
+1 See, BOE, it wasn't that hard! |
| No teaching happens the day before thanksgiving or on Christmas Eve. It seems days were added for show but for no real purpose |
Complying with the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the law... |
| this is great news |
TT's previous recommendation to start the school year earlier did not identify any additional makeup days in the spring. |
| I'm so glad TT resolved this crisis of his own making. Great job!! |
Looks like the scheduled last day will be 6/11 with potential makeups through the 17th |
Yeah, I’m fine with that. But I won’t be fine if MCPS decides to start Aug 15 in SY 27-28 and still not get out until mid-June because we waste so many days on everyone’s pet cause. |
Ridiculous that he's holding onto a transition day. Also, Thanksgiving is one of the most celebrated holidays in the country. It is the most traveled and a half day before Thanksgiving is makes no sense. It's been great being off the day before and the idea of resuming a half day really sucks. It is pointless. |
