7th Grade Lottery Results

Anonymous
I am semi freaking out about my daughter's lottery results. Do anybody have any guesses on the probability that she may get selected. BTW we are coming from BASIS so if need be we can stay there but the reason why we are looking is because my daughter is newly into theatre, acting and creative writing. My son left BASIS and is LOVING MacArthur.

Stuart Hobson #6
Hardy #16
DCI (Spanish Language Program) #19
Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Adams) #9
Deal Middle School #19
John Francis Education Campus #26
Eliot-Hines Middle School #29
Jefferson Middle School #14

DCPS schools tend to move their waitlists pretty late. I think any of those could happen. DCI doesn't take a lot of new 7th graders so I wouldn't expect that to happen for you.

Hardy is looking highly likely. Have you checked the historic waitlist results? This info is available to all.

No way to know. Depends on if people ahead of you decline which for 7th grade they often do. Be prepared for a call in mid-summer.

Does your daughter speak Spanish? Will adams take her if not?

Yes, she understands and speaks Spanish.

Looking at past years it’s pretty clear where you have your strongest shot: Hardy, with a late offer likely at John Francis and possibly a chance at Jefferson. Since you like MacArthur, seems you’re in good shape. If this is your rank order, you’ll likely match in July or Aug at Hardy.

Stuart Hobson is a no
Hardy solid yes by August
DCI - I don’t quite know fully how their lottery works but I think it’s a no
Adams is a no
John Francis is maybe but not until late, probably after school starts
Elliot Hines is a no
Jefferson is a maybe

For folks playing the lottery, you really need to take the time to learn how to understand the past lottery info. There’s always the possibility for surprises, outlier years etc but in most cases you can gauge where you have a decent chance or not. There are very clear patterns in most schools and grades.

The sixth-grade class at Stuart-Hobson was larger than expected this year, so I highly doubt they’ll take any kids off the waitlist for seventh grade.

Hopefully you get into Hardy- the theater program there is AMAZING. Another bonus is your other child loves MacArthur and they are hiring a theater teacher for next year.

Yes, she understands and speaks Spanish.

She has to pass a language proficiency test. Reading and writing in Spanish on grade level also.

This seems like a question for the Lottery Nerd, who is answering these in another thread.

I dont think that Deal or Adams are feasible. I don’t think they take anyone. I would be surprised if you didn’t get a spot for Jefferson or Stuart Hobson or Eliot Hine. Fingers crossed you get one for Hardy!
