PVS Long Course Championship

Anonymous
When does PVS post the qualifying times for their Long Course Championship that is held in July? Long Course season has begun and they only have last years times posted.

My daughter swam last weekend and got under the times posted for last year in two events, but wondering how much they differ year to year.

Thanks!

If I recall they were posted in May last year. There are a few PVS Board meetings this week so hopefully they will finalize the times in those.

They generally do not change much from year to year. If you look at last year’s times, the ones highlighted in red changed from the year before, and overall it’s a pretty small percentage of events where the cut times changed.

Agreed. If your child is close, s/he should work hard over the next few months. Don’t work hard to just making the cut - work hard to blow past it.

What about Maryland States LC meet in Rockville? When will they post the qualifying times?

Once again it will probably be similar to the times from last year to enter the meet. They were pretty generous times. Meets do not change much year to year.

Why do some events changed and not others?

Why do some events changed and not others?

They have a target of how many swimmers they want to qualify for each event, so if too many swimmers make the qualifying time they make the cut a little faster.

Thank you. This is helpful.

We are in a different LSC, but most of them determine how many heats they want for each event in prelims for championship meets. Then they examine the times from a certain number of past championships and use the to make the time standards.

Our LSC takes the past 5 years and looks at the times of the 32nd seed and then uses some calculation involving that time and the current time standard, or chooses a USA motivational time if the average is too slow. I’m not sure of the details, but if there is a protocol for your LSC, it should be in the bylaws.

Wow, there are a lot more changes than normal. The majority of the 13-14 cuts have been made faster.

A lot of changes in the 11-12s too.

Wonder what this means for the open champs cuts.

It depends on whether they structure LC Open champs the way they did SC Open champs and get rid of the Junior/Senior distinction. If they do, they will likely set the cuts at or near the 13/14 cut times.
