| I’m a single dad, and DD’s mom is not in the picture. DD is 14 and wants to try out concealer, but she doesn’t know where to start, especially with picking a brand, finding the right color for her skin, etc. She’s asking me for help (none of her friends are into makeup), but we’re both a little overwhelmed? Anyone have insight into where/how to start? |
| Take her to Sephora! The sales ladies are very kind and will help show her some options. |
+1. And if you can go during the week, it will be less crowded. They will help her color match. The salespeople have always been super nice to all ages. My 13 year old daughter took her 70 year old aunt there, and they were super helpful to both of them. |
| Sephora, the one in tyson mall seems always packed with teens girls. |
|
Definitely Sephora.
You can also pay a fee for a makeup session where they will do your makeup and teach you how to do it and discuss the products with you, and you can choose to buy any of them, or not. 14 may be a little young for all that but it's something to keep in mind if she has an interest in the future. |
| +1 For Sephora during the week. |
| She’s 14. Why concealer? She is likely watching too much Instagram/social media stuff. If she has blemishes or acne she wants to cover- address skin care and get her to a dermatologist. Otherwise she doesn’t need concealer and I’d be probing what media she is consuming |
| Sephora and she’ll be approached by all the salespeople to help. They are good and no pressure to buy. As long as you’re there, get her some lip gloss, blush and maybe mascara and she’ll be set for a while! |
| Agree to Sephora. But we have had just as good of an experience at Ulta with their salespeople. My DD prefers Sephora and their brands. I prefer Ulta because it is not as crowded. |
Nobody asked you to weigh in on whether or not it's a good idea. This is a very common interest at 14. He asked for help on where to start. Butt out. |

Sephora
They will be able to help you find a “no makeup” look so it looks natural. If pimples are a concern tell them to women there and ask about cute pimple patches. Makeup can be very creative and fun. - 57 who still needs Sephora to understand my skin. |
+1 Good lord!! |
No, concealer isn’t a common interest at 14. It’s simply pushed my influencers to make money. There is zero functional purpose |

Yes to Sephora but also look at some
Options online to get a sense of your budget. Sephora is expensive IMO. Ulta is another option with a broader range of prices. |
