First of all, this post is not meant to place blame on any organization. It is a suggestion to improve the odds of creating elite players.
Why don't we have relegation in youth soccer at the competitive level after U14? Each travel club (including DCU, Union, ect.) should only have one team from U14 and up on the top level. And the teams can go down or up to division 1 and 2. We hear DCU is not the best academy. This would solve players leaving clubs like SYC, Armour, BSC, Alexandria, etc, to an academy that, according to many posters, is not good. This would place pressure on the academy clubs to improve or they don't attract talent and can be relegated (even DCU). You also create loyalty to a club. Let the best club attract talent. Let the best club win. MLS Next Pro Player Division MLS Next Homegrown Division MLS Next Academy Division Each club has just one team starting at U15 and that team can go up and down. That would solve so many issues with our system. Academies like DCU taking good players from clubs and making it competitive and fair. Thoughts? |
| Acadamy clubs take good players all over the US. Yes there are other bad acadamy clubs though dcu haters do not want to admit this. The regulation would need to be nationwide and thats not happening. |

I like that you are proactively thinking. However, what you outlined will only enhance the problem.
The best club in the DMV for development has the worst record in MLS Next and people laugh at them. I find it laughable that people would go anywhere else to be developed. Stop looking at scoreboards and focus on the training environment. Educate yourself on the MLS business model and understand what you are relinquishing for free training. I am good with relinquishing my rights when I know the club is highly motivated to try and get my kid to the first time. That is not the DCU business model or many in the MLS. It is the business model of Red Bulls which is why kids are doing there. The best thing we can all do it eliminate the territory rights of all MLS academies. Expose that system to someone important to invoke change. That will fully expose DCU and force them to adapt or die. |

It can be done but there is too much money made with the current setup. Spain has this relegation model.
Top players can get free club fee offers. That would make it more interesting and top players can select clubs and coaches they feel will develop them for professional pathway. Let the clubs compete for players and to stay on the top division. Attract business sponsors, etc. |

Each club already has only one team at the top level. Union/DCU don’t field multiple teams. Pay to play clubs only have one team in HG and one team in AD. A few problems with your idea
1. It’s a club v club model so you can’t relegate just one team, it would have to be the club which wouldn’t necessarily be appropriate for all teams. The distance between opponents we have here, as opposed to Europe, logistically make it difficult to implement anything but a club v club model. 2. We now have different age cutoffs between divisions. That alone makes relegation impossible. |
| Yeah, I read constantly here about how coaches are so awful for prioritizing big physically developed players who may not be good once everyone hits puberty. A relegation model forces you to win games and will double down on picking teams of kids who will win today. |
If your team has the worst record in MLS Next but your kids are getting the best training environment, couldn't you just play in EDP and keep the same training environment? Neither your team nor your opponents are gaining much from playing each other if you have in your own words "the worst record in MLS Next" |
Your logic has produced zero professional players. Their logic has produced several. Keep up the good work and whatever logic floats your boat. |
Which pay-to-play mls next club in our area is producing several professional players and where are they playing under contract? |
Don't understand how a MLS system that applies to all MLS clubs in the country is a DCU problem? |
| SYC is best club in the DMV. |
Best is relative. They win the most so if that is your metric, they are the best. They aren’t even on the podium for pro production. |
Who's on the podium for pro production? |
| Which locl club has the worst record in MLS next but the best development? |
I’m assuming the PP meant Achilles. |
