| I had applied for my kid into this VIP summer camp program and we got selected. I am lookingp to see if anyone has had any experience in sending your kid to the VIP program. The cost is 100$ for the whole Month. Just curious to see how the overall exp was and the quality of the summer camp |
| My child and many of their friends will also be attending. Everyone who went last year said it was great! |
| Is it for kids with behavioral problems or struggling kids? |
|
This camp welcomes students from the Carson, Cooper, Herndon, Hughes, and Longfellow middle school neighborhoods.
Hard pass. |
No, it's just a regular camp for middle schoolers since they have aged out of so many of the county camps. |
This is the case for middle schoolers across Fairfax county (and the broader dmv) but most aren’t offered a heavily tax payer subsidized camp option without some additional reason. |
What’s the reason? |
All middle schoolers in Fairfax County are offered this opportunity. The VIP camps are held at multiple middle schools. No gotcha here, LOL! |
| Herndon and Hughes feed into the VIP camp. That is telling. |
It’s the same reason middle school after school programs have been subsidized historically: middle schoolers are the number one demographic to find trouble if left to their own devices. They are too young to work, too old for a babysitter, and their brains are too immature to make good choices. A subsidized camp saves the county money in the long run when they don’t have to deal with so many issues. |
There's nothing telling about it. They break the county up and all the nearby middle schools feed in. Where: Held at five convenient FCPS Middle School sites. These are the sites for July 2026. Eastern VIP Camp at Whitman MS This camp welcomes students from the Hayfield, Key, Sandburg, Twain and Whitman middle school neighborhoods. Central VIP Camp at Glasgow This camp welcomes students from the Glasgow, Holmes, Jackson, Kilmer, Poe, and Thoreau middle school neighborhoods. North VIP Camp at Carson MS This camp welcomes students from the Carson, Cooper, Herndon, Hughes, and Longfellow middle school neighborhoods. Southern VIP Camp at South County MS This camp welcomes students from the Frost, Lake Braddock, Irving, Robinson, and South County middle school neighborhoods. Western VIP Camp at Liberty MS This camp welcomes students from the Franklin, Johnson, Liberty, Rocky Run, and Stone middle school neighborhoods. |
Yes it is. A camp with kids from Hughes or Herndon is possibly going to have more behavioral issues. |
| It's the only camp my kids ever went to with multiple cop cars sitting outside every day, from the start of the day. The camp itself is pretty cool, and the kids have a lot of freedom to choose what they want to do, but there are kids who need the extra guidance. |
Yep. I knew it. The low cost of the camp is a red flag. So many people will want to ship off their problem kid to be someone else’s problem while they go off to work. |
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? You go on and on about Hughes and Herndon and their feeder schools (I am confident you are the person who is so deeply offended that kids from Coates and McNair go to Carson and will go to Skyview). Just stop it. You are racist and classist and it's really sick. |
