Is this the new norm $1500 for 10 minute of gutter work

Anonymous
I literally need someone to do this job on my gutters for three areas and the estimate range from 1100 to 1500. This is a rip off I might as well do it myself. What is wrong with the dc area are people paying this not knowing any better? The gutter is not that high either

When you get an outrageously high quote it is because the owner of the company doesn’t want to take on a really small job but doesn’t want to completely burn bridges by saying they won’t do it.

Or it isn’t as simple as you think it is. There is no way the job you describe takes ten minutes for THREE areas. Just taking out a ladder, setting it up safely and then moving it to work on three areas takes more than ten minutes. And for safety if two people are working on the area they need to set up scaffolding. Anytime you are working up high there are safety requirements that have to be followed if you are getting licensed and insured people to do the work.

I was quoted $400 to clean the gutters on my house. Our second floor gutter is really high up.

Is this just a cleaning?

Do it yourself. I don’t know why you are complaining.

We pay $900 each year for gutter cleaning and roof inspection and resealing if necessary around skylights, etc. Licensed, bonded, insured. It's our easy button.

Lawn crew used to do cleaning for $250 but couldn't deal with their rickety ladders and random roof scrambling.

All of this.

It always amazes me when people from this area have zero skills and no willingness to do hard, skilled or dirty work themselves, complain about the price quoted by the people willing or skilled enough to do the hard labor or skilled job.

You see this on everything from plumbing to clothing alterations.

+1. It's called skilled labor for a reason. What's your hourly rate sitting at a desk? Have you seen what lawyers charge?

My husband has been cleaning our home's gutters ever since we bought the house. I want him to stop. It's too dangerous, the upstairs gutter is really way too high. I'd like to pay for a gutter guard instead, and then hire people to maintain it every few years.

We always combine services so it's worth the company's while to come out. Our gutter people also clean windows and soft-wash siding, so we have them do everything at once.

Seriously, I’d rather pay for a gutter guard than pay 4 figures every year for a cleaning.
