My almost 14 yo DD is very careful with what she eats. She recently got in her head that she does not have a flat stomach. She eats but only foods like berries, meats, grapes. She comes home at 4 from school and she will eat small dinner without carbs and that’s it.
I took her to her doctor and they took labs. She is low in ferritin and I am giving her iron pills. Does this mean she has ED? It’s a very difficult age and we have a lot of tension between us because of her not eating. I have tried asking, begging, explaining, demanding - nothing works. She talks back and says that i exaggerate and blow things over. She is 5.2 and 105 ibs |

And OP didn't say how long this has been going on. It can go from atypical to typical pretty quickly. I would start with a nutritionist, therapist, and keep tabs with the pediatrician. This is kinda how it starts... |

| With all the crop tops I’m sure she’s not the only one noticing other girls and seeing flat stomachs, especially in prepubescent girls. It’s not unusual for teen girls to get insecure about a body part. She could have a weak core but not eating won’t help. |

Is the doctor concerned about her weight? If so, do whatever the doctor tells you to do. If not, leave her alone. She is eating carbs, fruit. She’s not eating grains or processed carbs. A lot of people don’t. Don’t make a big deal about it.
As for the flat stomach, she’s a teen. They are body conscious. |

| I would keep an eye on this. A few weeks isnt enough time to show significant change on labs or vitals. Keep a mental note of what she is eating and add up the approx calories. If it’s low (I’d say under 1500, maybe even 2000), you have a problem. If she isn’t getting enough total calories, regardless of what she is eating, this can take a big toll on heath, even future health. Women stop building bone density in early 20s. Nutrition as a teen is crucial to future bone health. How was her weight compared to her last time she was at the doctor? |

She will be way under 100 pounds in no time if she continues living on berries, grapes and a little meat.
I restricted to 600 calories a day as an older teen and dropped from 115 to 87 at 5'4. |

For 14 under 100 would be pretty normal. Her weight at that height and age isn't worrisome. |
| Body dysmorphia. She probanly sees a beer belly. |
| Get her help. It is disordered eating. |

| Does she realize carbs give energy? That even Olympic athletes eat carbs? I would ask if she'd like to see a registered dietician so she can get professional advice because that might cut down on our tension. |
