I woke up with awful sinus pain and congestion today and took a sick day. I feel guilty even though I am sick!!
Do other people actually use their sick days? |
| Yes. I use all of them. They are there to be used. |
| Yes, its ok to use them. |
| People who come in sick think the entire world revolves around them and they are so important that the world will stop if they aren't there. NO. People coming in sick just make their colleagues sick. Stay at home! Start thinking of others besides yourself! |
I use my vacation days instead. |
| No OP, you're the only one who ever uses a sick day. 🙄 |
| I always feel guilty for a sick day and almost never take them unless I am contagious. So I feel you, OP. |
| I take them if I need them. We get paid out twice yearly for unused sick days but I can also use vacation days for sickness if the payout just happened. |
|
What’s your job, op?why do you feel so guilty?
I’m a teacher and if I’m really sick I literally can’t stand up, plus I don’t want to infect my students. Subs aren’t ideal, but yes I take sick days if I need them. |
| Yes, if I am sick, but that is like once per year. |
+1, it’s really kind of ridiculous |
| I get that but there really is no reason to feel guilty. In some jobs, like food service or retail, it could have a negative impact on your future hours. But in a salaries job that offers sick leave and health insurance, it's really not a big deal and most of the time people don't notice you're gone. |
I’m also a teacher. I only use leave if I am so sick I literally can’t get out of bed. If it’s anything less, I’m up and out the door. It’s just too difficult to make plans and find a sub. I’ll suffer through. I used to worry about being contagious, but quickly came to the conclusion that I likely caught it at work anyway. |
| I am rarely sick but a few weeks ago I had a bad cold and was just miserable and tired. I took a sick day and it was just what I needed |
| I'm an hourly employee. I work, I get paid...I don't work, I don't get paid. So there's no such thing as sick days really. |
