Accept that this is just my style?

Sometimes I feel like branching out but I have been wearing jeans, striped shirts and solid black/white/navy basically my entire life since I was 16. I try to buy things out of my comfort zone even if only a different color, and I just don't feel like "me" and sort of messy.

Embrace it, like the NYT photographer in his Blue jumpsuit or Steve Jobs and his black mock turtleneck.. It definitely relieves your mental load. I’d love to have a fail proof uniform and in fact that is my 2026 goal.

Its not you.
Stick to what works for you.

I like variety in my life. I'd be depressed if I had to live like that... but my adult son basically has a uniform and it reduces his anxiety, so I get it.

Just embrace it. A coworker pointed out the other day that all winter I've worn some variety of cream top, camel sweater, black pants, and at first I was embarrassed and then I was like...whatever. I've gained weight and a lot of my clothes don't fit and also like, I know I look good with cream and camel next to my face so who cares.

Oddly enough I do tend to wear brighter colors but while losing the weight, buying new clothes that fit hasn't been a priority so I add my brights back in as they start to fit again, lmao.

If you're that worried about it, spring for a color and style analysis. Or DIY it and use Ellie-Jean Royden's style roots system to figure out what works for you.

Where are you going OP in this outfit? Work, the office a wedding or a adult only party?

It sounds like you have "branched out" and every time you didn't like it. So just wear what you feel good in.

Wow, is this thread timely. I also have my uniform that I'm completely comfortable in. Recently, I ordered some "out-of-the-box" things to try and mix things up a bit. I spent far too long trying to convince myself that these were flattering items that I would actually want to wear.

Sending them all back tomorrow. I know they would sit in my closet, unworn, costing me money. I feel so much lighter and will continue to embrace what works for ME!

I'd act normal but keep an inward side-eye on this coworker if fashion/yourselves was not the topic because that's the hell of a thing to verbalize.

OP, accept the style and know that you look normal/comfortable and not like a try-hard. I'm a person who can't do trends- both because they look so bad on me and because they make me self-conscious. Minimally trying new things here and there is fine if you feel like it but a person who wears all the trends has no style.

I'm like you OP. I like Navy and stripes. I have an entire wardrobe of navy shirts. I love things that are made well and cut well so I change things up in this way.

Sometimes I wish I could wear prints or colors but when I put them on it just doesn't feel like me. I'm 51. Unlikely I'll ever change.

Haha, I am in the navy and stripes club too! A friend commented that blue is my color since that’s primarily what I wear. I am more comfortable in blue which means if I am comfortable and feeling good I can focus on other things. As I have gotten older (49) black looks too harsh by my face. Prints and flowy styles make me feel frumpy.

Embrace what works for you OP and if you want to branch out try starting in small steps, maybe a fun color in your shoes, belt, purse, etc.
