Girls names not in top 1000

Anonymous
I was looking at the names posted by the SSA that are not in the top 1000, and there are so many good ones! Not all personally my taste but I'm surprised to see some of these not ranked higher- Simone, Corinne, Cordelia, Tess, Ingrid, Viola, Claudia, Sally, Etta, Annette, Zinnia, Anneliese, Calla, Darby, Cecily, Linnea, Marianne, Coco, Gretchen plus so many formerly popular names but still useable names like Kristen/Kirsten, Susan, Jillian, Tara, Kathleen, Cara, Christine, Shannon. I wonder if Ines/Inez, Betty, or Artemis will become more popular thanks to Taylor Swift and the space shuttle, respectively. We are pretty much settled on a more popular name, but it was fun to look through the list, since there are lots of classic-ish names.

The names that aren't in the top 1,000 are usually better than the ones that are, in my opinion. People tend to think that the top 1,000 list is filled with classics, but there are so many weird trendy names on there when you really take a long hard look at it (like Scottie (for girls), Jream, Collins, Kinsley, Brynlee, Kannon, Colten, Gatlin, Jaxxon, Westyn, Banks, Wells, Wilder, Ryker, Krue, etc.). (Yes, I pulled all of these names directly from the list.)

I love Carla, Ciara (with the traditional Irish pronunciation), Damaris, Ginger, Jodi(e), Julianne, Katrina, Kay, Lizbeth, Lynn, Lynette, Marissa. None of them are in the top 1000 for girls.

Carla (with a K) is in the top 1,000. Ciara (with a K) is in the top 1,000.

I also love Ciara, Julianne, Katrina, Marissa, Jodi (and Joni and Joan for that matter)

Tess, Sally, Etta and Calla are all nicknames and I bet the full name IS in the top 1000. I love traditional names and loathe alternate spellings and made up names.

I know a couple of small Annelieses, so I feel like that may be ready to trend.

Personally, I'm ready for Sally to make a comeback!

My mom was a Viola and hated it, lol.

Isn't Tess short for Theresa/Teresa? Those are not in the top 1000 anymore either. Calla is just a flower- I don't think that's short for anything. Is Etta short for names ending in -etta? Or is there a specific name? Then I think Sally stands alone - you have Sally Ride, Sally Field, Sally Hemings, even if it originally came from Sarah.

Jodi is cute and ages well (not too cutesy). You don’t hear that one at all these days. I wouldn’t have thought of it.

How did Kaylee make the top 1,000 but Kay didn’t??? Kay is so much better. The tacky “lee” at the end ruins the appeal.

Sally is a nickname, not a real name. I hate nicknames given as real names.

Claudia's beautiful. But doesn't matter if a name is popular or not.

Depending on what it is, I love a good nickname/diminutive as a legal name. Lizzie is my favorite. I can’t say that I like Sally, though.

Annoying, pedantic argument when the majority of names in the English language and otherwise originate from another source. If you like the name Sally, use Sally. If you like Molly, use Molly. Lucy doesn't have to be Lucille. It's unnecessary and an administrative burden for a Sarah who will never be called that to spend her life telling teachers, schools, places of employment, etc. that she goes by something else.
