As a huge fan of author Freida McFadden, I was shocked to read this morning that she has been using a pen name all this time!
Doesn’t really matter though - - she is still one of my favorite authors overall. 👍🏽 I didn’t realize she is also a brain physician too >> but since 2023 now only goes into work as one maybe 1-2x/month. |

I am not really surprised by this.
As an avid reader I have always assumed that every author/writer writes under a pseudonym. Look how long after V.C. Andrews died - a ghost writer was writing “her” novels. |
| THere were so many books coming out I wondered if it was some sort of collective. I didn't read any of the articles though I saw them in my feed - why did she unveil now? Why not stay with the pen name? Maybe she wanted more recognition? Those books are wildly popular. |

I’m not a fan but I’m sure my Psychological Thriller FB pages are all agog over this news.
People seem to love or hate her books. |
|
My local Target/Walmart + bookstores have tons of her book titles on display.
I have read a lot of her books & find them addicting, easy to read and did I say addicting?? Lol. I also assume the majority of authors out there use pen names…..I don’t think many use their actual birth names under the titles of their novels. ✨ |
| You’d think a brain doctor would write a better book. |
I disagree if by "better" you mean more literary or nonfiction. People read to escape, and she was writing to escape. Her books are good for what they are - quick, easy thrillers and domestic dramas. She wasn't looking to earn awards, she was escaping her very demanding day job. |
Is this the “author” with the trilogy about the maid? Maid watching, maid neighbor and another maid something? Are these good books? Am I phag if I read them being born a cis male? |
| A “huge fan” who wasn’t aware she used a pen name? Okayyyy. |
| It was common knowledge that she uses a pen name and is a doctor. The mystery is who she is. Now we know. |
|
I think at least 95% of authors use a different moniker on their book covers.
Because this happens too often. |
I think the PP here meant they thought the books would be better written meaning more adult-like language (I think!) Because while her story content is very good, her overall writing style is very simple compared to her contemporaries. |
| Apparently she claims she was being stalked and was forced to divulge her identity. Not sure this makes sense. |
Not what I read at all...From article in USA Today: "It's so much more boring than anything that happens in my books," McFadden says. McFadden only created the pseudonym because she didn't want her writing career to conflict with her hospital job. "My whole goal was to keep it a secret until I was (ready to) step back from my doctor job, so it wouldn't be like everyone I work with suddenly knew and it compromised my ability to do my job," McFadden says. In late 2023, she stopped working full-time. "But I have stepped away from my job. I'm only working like once or twice a month." |
