Sports General Discussion
| First year that my 8 yo son is doing baseball with BCC. The coach just circulated a sign up list for snacks for each game. What are parents expected to bring and in what form? I’ve seen on TikTok the gallon zip lock bags filled with drinks, fruit, protein bars, and other snacks. Is it really that much? |
| I've seen it all. From 1) total junk: a bag of powdered donuts 2) a healthier sack with: gatorade, string cheese, mandarin orange, 3) a middle of the road sack with: juice box, Doritos, granola bar and small apple or 4) just a popsicle on a hot day. You pick your lane. |
Stop doing snacks at youth sports. Jesus. |

Go to Costco
Chips Popcorn Granola bars Fig bars ( one of the above if you don’t want to be extra) Gatorade Don’t do candy |
r While I agree with you in spirit, it’s a thing. If the coach has sent out a sign up sheet be a good parent and sign up. It’s not hard. |
| While a few others bring the bags (sometimes it's like a brown bag lunch sack decorated with player names and such) I always go for something like a bag of chips and a Capri Sun. If you value the adorable Pinterest bags, then you get to bring them on your weeks. |
| Some 8 year olds are only there for the snacks. Just get them something they’ll actually like, and everyone can worry about the seriousness and health of youth sports later. |
| The snacks are SO overdone with the baseball sport at this age. |
| My kids are now in high school and middle school and have played baseball on both rec and travel teams for 10 years. I have NEVER seen this. We bring our own snacks for our kids. Berries, bananas, mandarin oranges, granola bars, Yogurt, gatorade if it's hot, pretzels. Whatever your kid likes. |
It stops around 10U. I've lived all over the US and seen this everywhere on every sport, it's not even regional. Baseball moms also like to get into the theme and will do the decorated bag with Big League Chew, Cracker Jack boxes, and sunflower seeds. |

Capri Suns and some box of snacks where everyone can take one (chips, Goldfish, whatever). This is just a small treat/something to give hungry kids after a game until they can get some real food.
Once they are a little older, you’ll see more Gatorades than Capri Sun. |

I think 8 year olds I'd do juice rather than gatorade. Then a box of mixed snacks they can pick from. We would never do individualized bags, that's really extra.

| My sons are now 21 |

Whoops.
My sons are 21 and 19 now and we always brought healthy individual sized snacks that we liked because you'll be let with whats left. Kind bars, bags of almonds, bags of trail mix, and fig newtons. Do not bring doritos/chips. |
Your kids aren't that old but nuts are pretty much out these days and have been for a long time, I also have a teenager. |
