Any Kindergarten not full for 26-27?

Anybody hear of schools with open spots for kindergarten for 26-27?

I’ve heard you can contact schools after spring break and ask if they are accepting late applications. Before I start doing that, anybody know of schools with openings or super short waitlists?

You'll get much more accurate info by picking up the phone as you pointed out.

You can call. It's a red flag so schools don't really publicize it.

They probably won't even tell you, they would probably prompt you to fill out the application and they will see if they can find you a spot.

CHS doesn’t have space in kindergarten- we called. I heard Green Acres and St. Andrew’s have space still.

Some context would definitely help us get you a list together. Like are you moving to the area and open to a few locations? Or did you not get into your original choices and are now doing the last minute shuffle? Or realize something about your local public school that isn't going to work? I know it can be hard to put into words what exactly you are looking for, but giving context can really help us narrow it down and this is literally an anonymous board so there is no shame here (don't believe me? Go check out the annual giving thread where someone is saying they only want their kid engaging with UHNW people 🤣)

Christ Episcopal School in Rockville. It's never, ever, ever, ever full. Ask questions before enrolling.

Thank you all for the ideas. Green acres seems special and I will reach out to inquire. Green acres doesn’t come up much on this blog.

We are in Bethesda so most schools are a doable distance. My daughter is in a pk-8 school which I was okay with. I didn’t think I needed to apply elsewhere. But I realized over spring break that she is behind in letter recognition even though she is well over 5. I know she is not too seriously far behind but she is far enough behind that I think her teacher should have at least given me a heads up by now so I could focus on it more at home. I started asking around and found a family left because their older son never learned how to read and nobody told them he was struggling or needed extra attention. He just flew under the radar. Luckily I caught this now and I feel I can correct this over the summer. But my trust in the school has been broken. I’d rather make a change now than have a bad kindergarten experience then have to find something else for 1st grade.

I have no aspirations for a big 3 school. Just hoping to find a school where kids can be kids and grow up relatively happy. Hopefully give my kids the tools to weather the inevitable storms in life.

That is actually super helpful context! So first, I want to say completely normal for kids to have different pacing on letter recognition (she will definitely be able to make huge strides in the right environment), but also very valid that the lack of communication lost your trust in the school. So, it isn't a full on panic for a new school, but calmly switching (whether this year or next) is probably a good idea.

Before making the leap I would try to hone in on what learning style is working for your daughter and aim for a school that works with that style.

I do think (based on the little you put here so grain of salt) green acres could be a really good fit if she isn't clicking in a traditional private school academics environment because it is more progressive, but if she needs more academic structure she may need a swing in the other direction and WES may be a better option.

Ultimately, I would prioritize getting her into the right school for her learning style over making the jump happen asap.

What do you mean, you just noticed? Have you had progress reports? Parent teacher conferences? What do they use for assessments?
Based on your post, it just sounds like you decided to freak out and act rashly.

How do you not know your kid is behind in letter recognition? You work on reading with her at home, right? This isn’t only on the teacher.
