Troll Accusations!

Anonymous
Is it just me or is there a new poster around these days who seems to be an expert at identifying and calling out trolls.

It seems like every other post has a "your a troll" or "don't listen to the troll"..... it's kind of annoying because most of the accusations are simply towards other posters who don't share his or her viewpoint and may be a little snarky but not overly so.....oh well.

I was called a troll once. Pissed me off, and it was only because my opinion was different than the majority.

I've been posting on this site for over 4 years. I have learned that troll postings come in waves. If it contains hysteria and/or name calling, it's probably a troll. If they just never shut the hell up, it's probably a troll.

I've only been accused twice in all my postings.

Some posters parents failed them by not teaching them any effing manners. They may not be trolls, but they certainly are rude.

It's offensive to the group when you have your own thoughts. It is also offensive to some OP's when you don't agree with them -- even when they ask for opinions/suggestions/ideas.

Another who has been accused of being a troll for suggesting a different POV.

I agree completely about people flipping out about just having a different POV. It's like some people are so thin-skinned that they can't even hear that you aren't a big fan of their pediatrician. They take it as a personal affront if you have a different opinion. I find it tedious, but I try to imagine how tedious that person's life must be if they take offense to EVERYTHING.

Defensive much? I bet this is the troll hunter.

For me being a troll isn't about your views but about how you present them. A troll is trying to stir things up, so probably some troll accusations are made by trolls.

Yes, if you disagree with certain people here their insecurity will rage out of control. Emerson said that "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" No where is that more evident than on the Political Discussion board and the obsessive posting of anti-Rhee/Fenty rants. It's taken the fun and spirit out of this board. There is no more debate, just bizarre lengthy obsessive manifestoes.

--For the last few months, everyone is subjected to an absurd ad hominem attack if they disagree with a "certain" poster or line of thought. Arguing with maniacs is pointless. People need to be on medication, or, take a break, or get laid, or get some perspective on the fact there are other legitimate reasoned opinions on many different issues. That's what makes life interesting and happier. Many people on this board clearly lead little angry lives; you really can't waste too much energy divining their motives.

Yes, you are right that technically that is the definition of a troll. However here on DCUM it seems to have evolved into simply someone "we" don't believe -- a false poster.

I've definitely seen inappropriate troll accusations pop up. It's as if it's the ultimate diss.

Just report the post to Jeff, he'll delete it.

I don't think you're a troll if you simply have a different view that I don't agree with. But if you present a radically different view in an offensive way that seems designed to stir up controversy (rather than just simply register a different viewpoint), then I think you're a troll.

Here's a made-up inflammatory statement: "I disagree with all you people saying that Dr. Welby is a good pediatrician. Any parent that takes a child to Dr. Welby should be arrested for child abuse. If you take your children to Dr. Welby, you must hate them. I'd punch you in the nose if I saw you leaving Dr. Welby's office! He's a goat fucker." Anyone who calls you a troll just for disagreeing is obviously wrong, but if you go over-the-top in disagreeing, it sure starts to sound like you're trolling rather than just stating an alternate viewpoint.

Actually I'm not the infamous "much poster" but did steal some of her thunder.

You reported my post? Good grief.....

I'm the one you called defensive. I thought it was funny and did not assume you to be the "much?" poster.

I almost never accuse someone of being a troll. If there inconsistencies or straight up bullshit, I point those out. More frequently, I ignore.
