| What would your child(ren) have been named if your spouse had no say in the matter? What names did you really like that were vetoed or unusable for some other reason? I’m trying to get ideas. |
| They (husband and kids) wanted Ariel. I vetoed. This was 35 years ago in the little mermaid craze. |
| My DH and I agreed on a name pretty easily. However, I really like the name Jason and my husband noped it. Too common in our generation plus he had a fairweather friend named that. |
| We ended up using my fist-choice name, but my husband noped Claudia, Susanna, and Felicity. |
| Penelope |
| Jhaxsine |

My husband was ready to die on the Audrey hill, but our friends have an Audrey and their parents would’ve definitely snarked about “stealing” their name (stupid). Husband and I both have A names so didn’t want to keep up the trend with future kids so I got him off that train early.
A few that he vetoed were Perrine (nn Perri), Elise, and Zoe. Other that that, we had a pretty easy time - lucky we stopped at two daughters, I have no idea what we would’ve come up with for a third! |
| I vetoed Sadie because to me, it is a dog name (a cute dog name! But a dog name), and Evelynn because I already knew several baby Evelynns by the time we were expecting. DH vetoed Gwendolyn and Beatrix. |
|
I liked Josephine nn Josie but my narcissist FIL was Joseph and he would have thought we were naming her after him.
|
I also liked the name Jason or Jay (like Gatsby) but was vetoed. I only had good to neutral associations with it but yes for our gen it was too common to know someone or have had several Jasons as classmates. Now there are no young Jasons!
|
| I vetoed Maia. I don't even know where DH came up with that one. Maya? IDK it was vetoed before the spelling even came up. |
|
I vetoed Maria.
My husband vetoed Luke and Veronica. |
My husband and I felt the same way about Emily. Beautiful name, but we both knew snotty ones. |
| Christoph got vetoed by DH as pretentious sounding (not to me, but it's common where I'm from). Christian vetoed for pronunciation in English (didn't want to spend a lifetime correction to like Cristiano ronaldo but no o). |
| I like Rebecca (nn Becca) and Elizabeth but DH had dated girls with those names. |
