Hunters Woods Magnet Lottery

Has anyone here been accepted from the waitlist into Hunters Woods magnet program? If so, I would love to know what number you were. I want to be hopeful but not sure we’ll get off the waitlist as we are currently above 40.

Wondering the same - I am 32 in the waitlist and know a friend who is 21 as well. No idea if it moves so much frankly - for 30 plus kids to deny admission and us to get a chance seems farfetched to me

I did! We were 38. This was last year. It is totally going to depend on how many kids applied. It’s super frustrating though because we didn’t get off the wait list until June and at that point we had already went in a different direction for schools.

Hunters Woods gen Ed population is bad. Wouldn’t want to send my kid to that school period.

I had one child go to HW and one to Sunrise Valley for AAP. My Sunrise kid wish they stayed at HW as the kids are friendlier than at Sunrise. I would have to agree.

You can always return to your base school

+1 But I don't blame the kids themselves.

Yeah there is an enormous difference between the AAP program there and the grade level instruction. Most of the AAP kids come from Waples Mill, which is a very different demographic. When j worked as a sub I went to HW a few times, and subbing for the grade level was no different than subbing at one of the nearby Title 1 schools. Lots of behavior problems.

It’s also worth noting that if your child gets into AAP while at HW for the magnet program, they are ineligible to attend AAP there and have to go back to the their base school or center, or stay in HW as a non level IV student.

So the magnet program is entirely separate from AAP? So at some point if eligible need to decide if stat magnet or do AAP? Is there a “most parents do this path” consensus?

Yes, they’re totally separate. I don’t know what most parents end up doing, but I suppose it would depend on how the base/center is. I’d imagine anyone who opts for the lottery is less than impressed with their base school, so they may opt to stay and just receive level 3 pullout services, unless they want to try the center school. Again, the grade level experience is quite different from AAP. To be completely honest, I don’t have a very favorable opinion of the principal and the long serving assistant principal, and they really set the tone for the atmosphere at the school.
