schools that left a bad taste

First time mom in this process. A lot of wins and a few hard losses. All losses hard but some felt 'cleaner' than others. Some made sense/fair enough and others left a bad taste with seemingly non transparent admissions policies, agressive marketing, all the 'we care about the kids' bs, evident yeild managment, games etc. Anyone else have a bad taste for particular schools or the entire process in general? I have another dc about to apply and man I am not looking forward to it. This are big businesses, they do not 'care about the kids.'

Not a bad taste per se, but my kid got a last minute interview request for Harvard. They had a scholarship weekend for a full-ride and couldn’t make any options work. The interviewer had to call admissions and see if they could extend deadline. It happened, went well as strong interviewer, got rejected. Obviously didn’t expect to get in, but I always envision them saying who do you think you are kid not taking the interview and moving us? Haha

I actually appreciate the schools that deferred DC and then denied in RD.

I knew a deferral was basically a rejection, but mentally it was still a lot easier to take than an outright no. It also gave DC the chance to stay calm and focus on essays over winter break.

And honestly, I appreciate that they did not waitlist after the deferral. It was a clean cut and made it easier to move on.

My kid didn't get into the OOS flagship that had been instate for me, where I went. It shouldn't have been a difficult admit and the U decision wasn't likely to yield protect. I don't have the same enthusiasm, don't cheer-on their Div 1 athletics now like I use to. Truth is my kid probably would not have chosen that school and is happy where they are but it bugs me.

None. DS was rejected from his reaches and accepted at his safeties and targets. Can't complain.

Michigan for sure. Messiness with ED and seemingly everyone who was deferred EA was waitlisted in RD. I just don’t understand what they’re doing - even the tippy top stats/narrative kids at our feeder private didn’t get in!

What does this mean? They accepted kids that work hard and strive and that's bad?
