My niece just got engaged. She and her fiance are almost sge 30, own a home and a dog together, and have good jobs (they seem to have more discretionary spending than I do, haha).
Any ideas of something to send as an engagement gift? They are not registered and I asked my brother what they might like and he had no ideas. |
| Send a card and flowers or take them out for a lunch but wait for the wedding to give a gift. |
| What about a nice clock from PB or RH? I know it’s pretty old-school but I love to get clocks for engagement gifts. |
|
They don’t live nearby so I can’t take them for a celebratiry meal.
I was thinking to send a bottle of champagne or wine (although not sure how easy it is to ship alcohol). - OP |
Nice idea! - OP |
How many clocks do you need and how many times have you been engaged? |
| Obviously it depends on your relationship with the couple, but personally I would not (and have not) given engagement gifts to my nieces and nephews. I give a shower gift if I am invited to one and a wedding gift whether or not I am invited to the wedding. (One nephew had a very small wedding with just parents, siblings, and a few close friends.) |
Hahahah I meant that I love “to get people clocks for engagement gifts” Just an idea - I think it’s a bit creative and out of the ordinary and everyone can use a decorative nice clock! |
| It has never occurred to me to get anyone an engagement gift. |
| Just send flowers. |
I hope you are kidding. |
| I've never given an engagement gift. But if you want to, I like the idea of sending flowers. |
| I would not get anyone anything they will need to dust. People just don't want these things that much these days, and want to pick out their own decor. |
Agree, I don't see a need unless that's part of your culture. You'll be hit up for shower and wedding gifts, don't worry lol. |

I got both my niece really nice picnic baskets
with built in cooler and cute accessories like little tablecloth and napkins, a corkscrew. |
