2033 Girl Team Options by Arlington

Anonymous

My daughter is a 2033 (rising 6th grader) currently playing rec lacrosse and we are looking to transition her into a club environment for the 26-27 season.

To be honest, we aren’t the "D1 scholarship or bust" type of family. Our main goal is to find a program that offers more structure and higher-level coaching than rec can provide, with the ultimate goal of getting her ready to compete and have a great experience in high school. We really value the life lessons of team sports, accountability, hard work, and teamwork.

We are currently looking at 3d Mid-Atlantic, Pride, and Steal (based on location).

From what I can gather:
3d (Respect 2033): Is it too intense for someone not looking for national recruiting?
Pride: How is the culture for the 2033 age group?
Steal: I’ve heard they might offer a bit more of a "balanced" approach. Does that hold true for the younger girls?

For those with daughters in these programs (especially the 2033 or 2032 classes), I’d love to hear your thoughts on:
Coaching Quality: Is the focus on individual development or just running plays?
Culture: Is it inclusive, or does it feel like a "revolving door" of players?
Time Commitment: Is it manageable for a multi-sport athlete?

Appreciate any insight or "lessons learned" from your experiences. Thank you in advance.

The ones you’re looking at will be good for your kid so if you’re not looking for the D1 or bust.

Steel didn't have enough interest to field a team beyond a single 2032 team last year. They will hold tryouts again this year so maybe they can gain more interest for a 2033 team...

What about STARs at the St James. Depending on where you are in Arlington, Springfield is not that much harder to get to vs Great Falls. The program is pretty established and has a new director.

We have loved Steel. Super strong supportive coaching staff and the girls have really grown this year. My daughter has really grown her love of the sport which has been fun to watch.

The time commitment is similar to to all local travel teams - and we do NGLL. Practices have mostly been in the Alexandria VA area, with some at Visi this spring. I would definitely say the culture is balanced. A lot of the girls play other sports and the parents are all very positive.

Currently have a 32 team and will be hosting tryouts for 32, 33, 34 and younger in June. Would definitely recommend to check them out!

OP Here: Thanks for sharing. Can you please share more? How about practices (how many times a week, how long, does it change during summer or winter). What do you like about the coaches? How many girls are on the team? Fees?

In case they’re not on your radar I’d also like to recommend YJMA. It’s a great program and I’ve heard that year has a nice group of kids. They held supplemental tryouts recently so if you reach out, they might still want to chat and your girl can join a practice or two to see if she’s a good fit. If she is, you could maybe start this summer It’s definitely not unheard of.

Steel follows this schedule, which I believe BLC and Stars do as well. True is similar, but no NGLL. Most practices are 1.5 hours.

Fall - 2 practices a week/3-4 fall tournaments in Oct/Nov
Winter - 1 practice a week/5-6 local indoor games typically in Jan/Feb
Spring - 2 practices a week/5-6 NGLL games in MD
May/June - 2 practices a week/3-4 tournaments in MD/PA - ends by first week of July.

I've heard mixed things about the future of 3D from other parents because Kash might not be as involved. Not with 3D so not sure how much of that is rumor or just general grumblings.

As a former 3D parent, Kash being less involved benefits everyone except her handpicked favorites.

Pride’s 33 Red team is pretty strong. The coaches are nice and the girls have fun.

Stars 33 LB > Pride 33 Red

Pride and strong are not usually in the same sentence. That club has been relegated across all years. Check the rankings here https://usclublax.com/rank/?state_abbv=-99&v=2033&alpha=N&yr=2025&seed=c0sxqs

Of the clubs you started with, 3D is probably the strongest but you have to practice all the way out in Loudon.

Do not expect any club to focus on individual development beyond general feedback and things to practice on. All girls need to work on their stick skills outside of practice. Learning plays depends on the talent of the kids to learn and execute the plays.
