According to the commissioner, there will be a formal announcement in May. Probably around the same time they announce new league formations, etc.

If this is true (source?), I would expect GA to go SY. There is no need to formally announce if you are staying status quo.

100% spot on take.

Ironically the logic from two weeks ago that the subset of SY lunes were using when people pointed out that no announcement was needed if staying BY, will be weaponozed by same subset to attack non-crazy SY parents and the few BY fan parents

Me too, 100k + for 2 kids. 🤦🏻‍♀️ because “vaunted” public schools here actually suck.

So school + soccer + driver = me slaving away for some club to not have their act together until 2026

If you really want to go down that rabbit hole again. Most other countries define their SY by BY.

False claim. “Most other countries” do use calendar year / BY regardless of school year/grade. A simple google search would tell you that. They actually specify which countries use SY and it’s a small minority.

But our country insists on using inches, pounds, Fahrenheit, 110 volt, and “soccer”. So it seems consistent to be different.

Different poster, but I think you missed the point that a vast majority actually do use their SY. In their country SY=BY. So they aren’t having our misalignment issues.

I didn’t miss the point. I contended that the majority of countries around the world’s use of BY are not aligned with their SY. Now you’re furthering that lie with “vast majority”. The countries that use SY, plus the countries that align SY in labeling BY, still doesn’t add up to the majority. Far from “vast majority”, they are a minority. Jan 1- Dec 31 of given year is the standard of age grouping in “vast majority” of countries for every sport.

But, I’m just a concerned citizen that is spitting into the wind as the decision was already made. The rest of this thread is made up of parents trying to justify and rationalize why they want their kid to play against younger kids.

Most countries also use BY for school grade ages, so when countries that use BY for school grades use BY for sports leagues, that country’s age group for sports aligns with its SY (since BY and SY are the same in that country).

So most countries that use BY do so because in that country BY=SY. This has been established many pages ago.

The false propaganda was posted many pages ago. It wasn’t established.

Simple fact check- eligibility for U-17 FIFA World Cup is someone born on or after January 1st of that given year. Zero considerations for the plethora of formulas and stats posted here. Jan 1 - Dec 31 is the same standard used in every sport for youths in international sports.

I'm surprised this needs to be explained, but USSF creates special teams for the FIFA youth World Cups. Club teams don't play in those tournaments. In this thread, you'll see people refer to them as "youth national teams" or "YNT." They will continue to be arranged by BY.

We are trying to get to 1000! Please don’t give straight forward explanations. The BY crowd was holding on to some justification for BY for Youth Soccer and we need them to keep saying the same thing for 500 pages

I have a formal complaint, the above post and any others like it should not count for 1000. There may be 50 of them here so the true magic number may be 1050. Better make it 1100 to be on the safe side

SY parent here. There is plenty of justification for BY. Just some weirdly angry and aggro SY parents seem to pretend there isn’t.

MLSN has pretty solid reasons for not changing and wanting BY. Good for them. The beauty of the USSF decisions is that it truly makes three distinct pathways: rec, collegiate and pro.

The fact that you feel the need to explain is the problem itself. I’m probably much more familiar with YNT than you, which is why it makes less sense to use SY. The FIFA U-17 was one of endless examples proving that Jan 1- Dec 31 is the standard for youth sports age groupings in every sport. This is why the “vast majority” of countries use that standard.

But like everything else, the loudest voices typically come from the most dissatisfied. Since we were in the BY system for the past several years, the loudest voices came from parents of late birthdate kids. Congratulations for getting your way. Enjoy having your kids play against younger kids. In the end, there is no denying that every argument you come up with is to justify why you want your kids to play against younger kids.

Nope, glad people like you are seeing the other side of the coin. My q3 kid is strong in her age group ECNL team but knows she will standout for top schools after the change.

Enjoy having your kids play against younger kids. In the end, there is no denying that every argument you come up with is to justify why you want your kids to play against younger kids.

Just as you enjoyed your kid playing against kids 10months younger.

Hit a nerve?

Nope, glad people like you are seeing the other side of the coin. My q3 kid is strong in her age group ECNL team but knows she will standout for top schools after the change.

I actually do see the other side of the coin. Have a Jul and a Nov. I just think all of this was to please the loudest voices. I’m actually happy for those q3/q4 kids, but to be honest, this was about parents wanting their kids to play against younger kids.

We all know the international standard. We all know that England uses similar cut off to new SY dates being implemented by many leagues in 2026. We all know that most countries have school years that more or less align with BY, and that their sports leagues more or less align with their BY school year. And we all know that there are other US sports (baseball, softball, lacrosse, etc) that have moved to a SY age system with certain caveats and exceptions to the SY cutoff dates. Appreciate you chiming in at this late hour with you “two cents” on the topics.

I'm surprised this needs to be explained, but USSF creates special teams for the FIFA youth World Cups. Club teams don't play in those tournaments. In this thread, you'll see people refer to them as "youth national teams" or "YNT." They will continue to be arranged by BY.

Sure you do…

Again I guess you thought under the BY standard it was a great idea to have Jan kids playing with December kids who were a grade below them. I’m sorry that the age group changed, but it is for the better.

We group kids by SY. The BY crowd wanted and liked their Q1 and Q2 kids playing with kids a grade below. Saying otherwise is just delusional and disingenuous.

This is about those leagues geared towards placing its players in college, making a change to better align with the US school age cut offs; and a sport trying to increase the number of players that participate in it.

Agree that the upcoming changes MIGHT not meet these goals. That participation MIGHY not increase. That 8/1 MIGHT have been a better choice than 9/1.

But it’s not about loud voices from parents or some people wanting their kids to play against younger kids. The soccer organizations will always have a vocal minority to deal with and there will always be a youngest and an oldest in any age group.
