Skate Zone 4th grade field trip

Anonymous
William Tyler Page Elementary School is sending 4th grade students on a field trip to Skate Zone on April 8th (two days after returning from Spring Break).

Do other schools have field trips to Skate Zone and what did you think of the program? The information says there is one hour of a stem presentation followed by two hours of skating.

Seems highly educational. Not. Curious if anyone has any feedback.

Sounds fun - why are you complaining or this overly involved?!?! Loosen up and get laid

That sounds awesome! How much was the fee for each kid?

Are you upset that they are having a fun experience or that they are missing too much academic time? Sounds fun to me! The only days I remember from elementary were the special days just like this.

I think it's great. It looks free, so perfect.

I think that sounds wonderful! Good timing too — as a way to help the kids transition back to the relative structure of being back in school after a break. I also applaud efforts to give the students more experiences with enjoyable physical activities— particularly those that can be continued easily outside of structured group settings.

OP here- appreciate the non-toxic feedback. Has anyone's kid attended this program? Yes, it looks fun. If the kids did not miss 6 days of school already this year, i'd have no reservations.

OP here- it is not free. $20 per kid which is doable for us but not everyone.

If curriculum, it is free.

I did not go but our 3rd grade went this year. I believe last year was the first year they went. Guess it was good enough to repeat!

This sounds awesome. I’m sure they are tying this to some sort of age-appropriate physics lesson. This is the stuff that makes connections to learning. I hope they have a blast!

There is a way to apply for a grant on that website if you scroll down. The cost is looks like it includes food. I think it looks fun for the kids. I'd support it.

No grant needed. MCPS can’t charge if it is part of curriculum.

I’ve never heard that MCPS can’t charge if it’s part of the curriculum. Where did you hear that from?

They are charging per op. They may not charge for the bus but the activity they can.
