Is this common? I've been aware of my weight since I was 7 and dieting since my early teens. I've never been skinny and usually on the higher side of normal despite constant dieting, constant athletics, and at times disordered eating.
I'm finally on a GLP1 after hitting a particular high in my weight. To lose weight on a reasonable level (1 lb per week) I eat only 1 meal a day and not a full meal usually a very small portion plus working out every day. It seems like that makes it so clear why I couldn't lose weight. That's probably less than 700 calories a day. |

Obviously I have seen all of those people over the years and currently. My question is if others have noticed the same. That the level of dieting to achieving weight loss is far below what is typically "advertised" e.g. well below just a small calorie deficit. Again, I'm not losing at a rapid clip. In fact, my physician thinks it's strange I'm not losing weight faster. |
| Yes, this has happened to me when I dieted too long. My metabolism slowed down to hold onto fat. My body detected famine. It went into survival mode. Best solution is to eat more and move more. Also get off processed food, it seems to make me more hungry. |
NP here. That's not obvious at all. What's obvious is they failed you. What's your weight, height and a sample of what you eat in a day with and without the GLP1? |
| Have you tried lifting weights? Maybe you diet it away all of your muscle, which is why your metabolism is so slow. |
| Yes, this is common. Not sure about the 700 calorie thing - these things are not very easy to measure. But yeah, many women have the experience of feeling great deprivation for very little return. I’m also on GLP and for the first time since I was 10, I don’t live with constant hunger. |

I am a very fine-boned, petite, East Asian woman who feels most healthy at a BMI of 18. If I want to lose weight to get there, I need to go below 900 calories a day and exercise. That's just how it is.
The typical American advice does not apply to certain smaller frames, OP. In East Asia, we know this, and are not excoriated when we try to care for our health. Here, people cannot believe it's not unhealthy, because they're used to dealing with larger and heavier frames, who at a baseline level, need more calories to function. You do what you need to do, and make sure to get all your nutrients, vitamins and minerals in your diet. |
Yes, as a PEtite women with smaller bone frame and few muscles, my tdee is around 1000. My maternal grandma and all my aunts ate less than that since 30 years ago. |
