Why even bother from the NE? So many other options...

Is that a general recommendation or do you know something about UCI?

DC was waitlisted. 4.0, 35 ACT (but they don’t consider scores) with ECs and awards, internships all in major. We thought PIQs were very good. English major, second choice comparative lit. We are in state. A bit confused by this result!

Accepted with a $66k scholarship.

Does anyone from OOS even bother to apply to UC Irvine?

I've lived in CA, am familiar with the campus. It's in a pretty suburb, but has a sad, commuter-campus feel to it. More than 2/3 commute to campus. And many who do live on campus go home on weekends. It is totally dead on weekends and a tough, isolating place for OOS students who are there. Not much to do on campus but eat at the cafeteria called anteatery.

Probably my least favorite UC campus that I visited. Much prefer UC Santa Cruz, Berkeley, UCLA.

Is your kid in one of those very competitive Bay Area high schools by any chance? I’m sure s/he will get great outcomes (if s/he hasn’t already received great offers), especially oos and especially considering English is a niche major.
