Say what you will...but Bridgerton is perfect for me: tells a story with some substance, no laugh track, engrossing, not reality TV. It also doesn't have any violence or harrowing story lines.
I also loved, for example, the Detectorists. A simple but complex story with layers and characters, but slow and gentle. What might I enjoy? I am open to all genres but it must follow the guidelines above... |
| Mr. Malcolm's List is just like Bridgerton. Same genre, style, everything. |
Where can I find this? |
Not the PP, but I looked it up. Netflix. Probably Amazon, as well, but pay. It has Theo James and Gemma Chan, among others, who I love. Recently when I needed something easy and not stressful I rewatched a bunch of Modern Family and even Friends (mainly the early years.) |
| Try the Gilded Age. |

OP here and I watched this years ago before I had kids. It’s WAY too sad for me to watch now. |
And yet, it's truly terrible. Unfortunately. Not really shows, but all of the good jane austen movies! Any flavor of Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility, and some Emmas. |
I actually just re-watched Modern Family. I’d like something that tells more of a story and is more drama than sitcom, but not dramatic and traumatic if that makes sense! |
Netflix |
| It doesn't have a lot of substance (but it does have a storyline) and it is about gay couples but Heated Rivalry is kind of similar to Bridgerton but with a much smaller cast of characters. It is easy watching but engrossing enough - especially once you get to the second half of the series. Not traumatic. |
| All Creatures Great and Small on Amazon. |
| I think Mr. Malcolm’s list is also on Tubi, which is free. |
| The Durrells in Corfu |
This looks good! Amazon? |
