Would this be an issue? Milan Airports

Anonymous
We are thinking about heading to Italy for spring break to go skiing. I am not familiar with the airports in Milan. We would be taking some sort of public transportation to and from the mountains. The flights we are thinking about fly into MXP but we would fly home out of LIN.

I am just trying to figure out if one has less access to transportation or is more inconvenient, like way outside the city or something. It looks like MXP is the main airport.

Can any of you give me any insights? We are going to Corvina, if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

You mean you are going to Cortina, right? Corvina doesn't appear to be a place name, but rather a red wine variety.

MXP is the main long haul airport, LIN is much closer to the city center and mostly has short haul flights within max 2 hours or so. Both have frequent trains to the city center, but MXP is about an hour, while LIN is around 30 minutes.

Linate is very close to the city center-- 20 minute cab ride. Malpensa is much further out-- about a 50 minutes cab drive. Malpensa is the larger airport and Linate is the "city" airport and the facilities reflect this. Can't advise you on public transit differences as we always rent a car.

Hire a van.

It's basically the difference between DCA and IAD for someone in DC.

OP here. First, sorry, we are going to Cervinia so we won't be going into Milan, just flying in and out. I was just trying to figure out if flying out of LIN would add more time to our trip. I am looking at different flights so it may not be an issue. Thanks for the feedback.

Okay, in that case, yes going to LIN would likely add more time to your trip versus MXP, if your destination is Cervinia, because LIN is on the other side of Milan from there. Not sure about the transit options, I'll bet they have a ski resort bus from MXP.

Turin airport (TRN) is closer than MXP to Cervinia by about 45 minutes, but not sure about buses, etc to the ski area. It's a smaller airport, so fewer flights, but may want to look at that also, since you will have to stop no matter what if going there from the DC area (there are no nonstops to Milan from DC).
