Italian restaurant near Bethesda good for families?

We have been really disappointed with the options we’ve tried:

Disappointing food: Olazzo, Pines of Rome, Gregorios Trattoria, Pizzeria da Marco, Trattoria Sorrento, La Panneteria. Overall, the food was bland and/or came with heaps of he same sad red sauce on every dish.

Not great for young kids but otherwise excellent: Aventino

Where else should we try?

It is pretty causal, but tried and true (yummy pizza!)

Without kids, I would say Il Pizzico.

Sorry Mama Lucia is terrible. The pizza is decent but there’s better pizza elsewhere. The rest is salt upon salt upon salt.

We liked Pizzeria da Marco and Olazzo, but both are far superior to Mama Lucia, so if OP didn’t like them, she should steer clear of ML.

Il Pizzico will make penne pomodoro or penne with butter for kids. It is slightly more formal than these other places but still kid-friendly (depending on your kid.)

FWIW, I thought Aventino was mid.

Piccoli Piatti is great.

If Rockville works, try Ema Rossi
