Went from a mild Osteopenia DEXA to Osteoporosis in two years

My T Score is now 2.5 in my spine. I already do weight bearing exercise and walk 5 miles a day. I am on HRT. I use Vitamin D3/K2. I have a very good diet, emphasizing protein and calcium rich food. Would you go on a medication? How would you proceed? I have heard nothing positive about any of the medications. I’m afraid of side effects. I tend to react poorly to new drugs.

What does your doctor recommend? I’ve heard great things about the modern medicines.

You did all those things and not only was there no improvement ,but it got worse??

How old are you?

How confident are you in the test scores?

Were the Dexas done on the same machine with the same technician. There can be a lot of error in testing.

You cannot beat your genetics. Go on the meds for a couple of years, it will help.

This. My mom went on the meds for a few years in her 60s. She’s 82 and just this year had to go back on them for what is still very minor osteoporosis. My grandmother had horrible osteoporosis. I’m convinced the meds saved my mom’s back and hips.

How old are you. Make sure doctor checks for blood disorders. I had mastocytosis which has given me osteoporosis at 50, so I have no choice but drugs.

Get a second opinion. Your Dr could just want you to take expensive RX drugs for the kickback they will get from prescribing.

The desascan doesn't lie, the above is awful advice

Fosamax is an old drug, not new, and often used for osteop.

Are you on GLP-1?

Doctors do not get kickbacks for prescribing medications. It is against the code of ethics.

OP, I'm in almost the same boat. I've been taking Fosamax for 4 years and it's no longer working. Dr wants me to move to Prolia, an in drug with known side effects and an extremely stringent injection protocol.

I would not go on a drug like this without getting a second opinion. I'm having to wait several months for that, but that's OK. These are serious meds that you will be on for a long time. I would not rush into this. Keep exercising and eating well in the meantime. Weight bearing exercise is most important, moreso than walking.
