The reason the Oscars have lost their luster.

Seems like entertainment people are obsessing of why this is and the answer is very simple. Celebrities are overexposed. We have too much access to them. There’s no mystery. People used to turn in to see the celebrities because that was the one big time you could see them as people instead of in a magazine or on Access Hollywood or whatever.

Now, we see them all the time. We know their opinions on this or that. We know their dog’s name. We know that they are just people and not nearly as interesting as we had been led to believe.

I don't really care who won what, given it's all about who had the clout to campaign the hardest... but I do love critiquing the clothes.

Word shows have been on their way out for years. I think they should probably all just be canceled at this point, but it’s a good sign that the Oscars are only going to be streaming. They just get lower and lower numbers every year. Agree that nobody cares.

I liked it when they wore gorgeous clothes that I might aspire to wear.

These days a lot of the dresses are nearly nude type catastrophes. I don't care about those.

Maybe if the movies weren't so terrible more people would be inclined to see them in the first place and then care which ones won awards.

The reason I don’t watch is because all celebrities have so much plastic surgery they look like monsters and freaks. It’s the same reason I don’t watch movies anymore, outside of horror. That’s the only genre in which these actors look like they actually fit in.

Agreed. And all the collaboration with influencers is even more cringe.

Why would anyone watch award shows of people you don’t know? I don’t care who wins or loses. None of it has any affect on my life.

All people are created equal. This has been known forever. Why would anyone think a celebrity is better than them?

Maybe another reason is that there are so many top celebrities no one cares about particular ones. In the old days, there were just a couple handfuls and it was all about them.

Who are the top celebrities? I keep seeing the same old ones, like Clooney, Pitt, Roberts. It’s like there aren’t any younger ones?

Agree it’s getting harder to be a top celebrity now that there is so much more content and it gets diluted in that people are into many different things and there’s so much more to choose from.

Scarlett Johansson is pretty big. Maybe Natalie Portman. Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence for the 30s. I think it will take a few years to see if anybody who is currently in their 20s will stick around to be a top celeb and have staying power.

Remember Lost in Translation. Part of the backstory was that celebrities didn’t do advertisements in the US but did do them in overseas markets to maintain their mystique.

Chalamet, Margo Robbie, Zendaya, DiCaprio (still)

I would argue that content creators on YouTube are more famous than movie stars these days. The landscape of the entertainment industry has shifted dramatically in the last decade. Especially post-Covid.
