HS SAT Day Wednesday

Has anyone received a schedule from their school for the non-takers?

Yes. They're supposed to arrive a little before noon.

Anyone who shows up and isn't taking the SAT will likely be staying in the auditorium until like noon. If you can manage, it's best to send your kids late.

Our school said to arrive over lunch. (If you take the bus in the morning, you'll have study hall in the cafeteria.)

I will also mention that they're cramming all of the courses into 15 minute class sessions in the afternoon-- hardly seems worth attending.

My HS is just canceling the morning classes and students will just attend Periods 6 7 and 8 on Wednesday

Anyone heard from WJ?

I wish schools would be more creative about these half day situations. Neither of the above (15 minute periods or only 3 periods) will lead to substance in the classrooms. (The latter is a problem because teachers want to keep their many sections at the same place.)

But it's an opportunity for some out of box activities for the three classes not taking the test. For instance, underclassmen could do practice PSATs. Or the AP teachers could do review sessions and kids could decide which review to attend. Or there could be arts programming (particularly for the poor juniors who are apparently attending class after the SAT). Or a million other things.

+1 This is where you see the strength and creativity and investment in a high school’s admin/ILT.

Magnet programs have learning activities planned.
Which is why the magnets must be destroyed.

WJ sent out the schedule to parents on Tuesday. All the periods after lunch.

Yes. Just to clarify -- this person meant that WJ will have all 7 periods crammed into the time period after lunch. (Not that the periods after lunch will be having normal classes).

I do wish they would just do half the classes with these half days. My public HS had one half day per month for the teachers to do grading/planning and they alternated which of the class periods would take place during that day. It worked really well. The local theater used to do a special day for HS students -- like a dress rehearsal -- and you could attend for like $3 or something nominal, so I used to do that 2-3 times a year.

Most students who take the SaT leave and go home right after.

I’m a WJ freshman parent and saw a schedule of the 15 minute afternoon classes which is ridiculous. But it didn’t specify whether they are supposed to come in the morning or not. Yes, I need explicit directions.

It's your choice. They will warehouse your kids if they can't stay home.
