Give me your tips for selling on FB Marketplace

Anonymous
I listed a few items on FB Marketplace and I'm so over answering "is this still available?" question over and over only to get crickets, "will you take $XX?", "where are you located?" (when it clearly lists my city), etc.

Give me your tips for getting of stuff quickly, bc at this point I'd rather just put it all on the curb for free!

Yes, it is irritating.

I only list bang for the buck items - brand name things or items that I see that are popular (like a dining set). I learned my lesson with clothes or anything that needs to be tried on.

As far as the people who ask a question and then it's crickets I will quickly respond and move on knowing most won't follow up. If they keep asking questions I will look at their profile and see if they look like a normal person. I have had the most luck with women who (sorry if this is rude) can write in complete sentences and who seem to fit the profile of someone that would be interested in my item.

I will say that almost every time I list something I end up wondering if the time is worth it!

YMMV, but I’m just trying to make any amount of money and purge the thing.

I list low, and if someone asks me “will you take”, I take it. It’s money in my pocket and the thing is gone.

I sell stuff ridiculously cheap. I’m just happy to make a little cash and be done with it.

The “is this still available?” Is an auto question that often gets sent accidentally when people are scrolling and browsing. I know ove done it couple of times and I’m not a careless person.

You could also post on a local FB Buy Nothing group or on NextDoor. IMO movement depends on pricing and the quality/desirability of your items.

I've had very good luck selling on craigslist lately.

OP, you’re probably asking too much. Also, list your crossroads, that helps.

Just say price is firm.

Idk why but I hate haggling. I price really competitively and always sell for full price.

If furniture/house stuff, list dimensions. Seems obvious but you'd be surprised!

I research what others are selling the same thing for and offer mine for $5 less. Make sure you list city, but also crossroads. If you’re firm, say so, but know that being open will make things move. When replying, say, “I have someone else interested, so let me know soon or I’ll have to move on.”

things sell for the right price.

As someone who sells on FB marketplace pretty consistently

Search the good you're selling within 20 miles of your location then price it a bit lower than the others and and mention CASH ONLY in the description.

If someone comes in too low just ignore. If they're low-caste Indian or South Asian or lower class black- Ignore. Before anyone calls me racist I'm a minority and gotten burned too many times by those two groups. Your ideal buyer is an upwardly mobile young person (race doesn't matter) who sees a good future ahead of them so they won't rob you/be a threat BUT is not quite wealthy enough yet to buy things new.

Made a good amount of money following my own advice and never been robbed/burned on a deal.

If they try to insist on anything but cash before they come turn them away and if they say they don't have all the cash turn them away. If you've priced it lower as I suggested you'll have enough responses where the right person will come along eventually (usually within 2 weeks if you're within the beltway).

PP here: For clarification- Burned on a deal with the non-black/lower class folk.

I didn't even know this still existed.

Good to know.
