| We are a soccer family who has been privy to the manipulation, the greed, the corruption, and the nastiness of girls travel soccer in Northern Virginia. We began with the St James, only to find out that it was a money grab (still is). This facility is a money making machine. They don't care about your child. We forfeited practices due to lacrosse tournaments, other soccer clubs practicing, really anything that could bring in money other than the very team they were supporting and endorsing. They don't care about you. They care about your wallet and what you can do for them. Stay far away. They may be paying big dollars to the coaches you love, but they don't care about your child. They are greedy and even have coaches who are currently with other teams wearing their brand and recruiting. They are trying to dominate the NOVA area with their $$$$. Don't let them win. Stay on your teams and trust the process with the coaches your club has chosen for you. The grass is not greener. |
| I'm with you! |
| Ma’am we all know this. Why are you posting it for the 100th time? |
| Just trying to warn people.. they are like white washed tombs. |
No coach cares about your kid. If they have families of their own, they care about their kids. Every coach is worried about his or her own bottom line. Winning games, getting paid , looking for more money or better opportunities. You cant blame them for that. Sure they'd love to get your kid into a nice d1 college but again its self serving as they'll take some of the credit to lure in a new set of skilled players. Nobody cares about the well being of your kid outside of yourself. Dont think any program whether it be ecnl, rl, ga is any different. |
I fully agree that at the end of the day, it's a job for them and a job that rewards in both $ and professional satisfaction if their teams and players do well. But I don't think that means "no coach cares about your kid." Our experience has been very positive with coaches who invest "caring" in the team and players. That "caring" shows in things like not prioritizing winning above all else and player development that will benefit the player in the future. And finding opportunities for the player that don't only benefit the coach. Find one of those coaches if you feel your coach doesn't care about your kid! They are around! |

Exactly, there's a difference between a coach who cares about their personal agenda i.e. winning, money, doing things out of spite and anger, vs. one who goes the extra mile, who doesnt take things personally, and focuses on the player, not about his or her reputation in winning games. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I believe there are many coaches and teachers alike who really care and invest for that season your child is with them.
It's the ones who are motivated by their personal vendettas and are willing to forego putting 100% into the ones right in front of them for $$ and personal gain. It's fine if coaches want a better opportunity, but it's a difference between personal integrity in doing what is good and right. Commenter, you are right in that nobody really cares about your kid except yourself, which is why I am warning families about the $$$$ grab that the st. James is. They are unstable and greedy, and girls soccer to them is a warped afterthought. |

So your practices at the actual st james were canceled frequently, or field space practices?
My older boys play for a different club in EDP, and both are playing tsjfc boys teams this spring on tsjfc home fields--a really crappy grass field. I was shocked their older teams don't play on turf! Especially in spring with so many rain outs. |
| Do their MLS Next teams also play on bad grass fields? |
| Is it Bles Park? Those fields are terrible. |
| Both. We often loss field space at the st. James and practiced was canceled anytime it rained because of grass fields. I really don't know much about the boys side though. |
|
I didn't realize any of the teams actually got to practice on the indoor fields at the st james.
Are all the practices on grass? |
| When we were there they had 2 practices on grass and one indoor soccer/conditioning night. I'm sure that has changed because girls soccer is not the business' priority. You're not just working with a soccer club, you're working with an entire youth sports model and the sport that brings in the most $$$ is top priority. |
